I hit about 68-69 MPH according to the GPS and that was about all I could do.

What about my Z? Dr. D exhaust, K&N airfilter, BIG GUN CDI... Mid to high 70's or lower? All my mods are in my bio but those should be all the engine mods.

hey my rev limiter kicked in at 73mph when stock so adding a pipe and and filter won't give much more top speed. However you can then gear it higher like i did. Now its close to 80mph. Also it can do way better catwalks because stock gearing normally by the time you get it up its about powerd out unless you go really far back. With the gearing i have (one size bigger front sprocket) it can go forever.

Wait... I have a Big Gun CDI too. It makes the rev limiter kick in later. Higher RPM's means more revolutions per minute or second or whatever so the sprockets will be spinning faster at 8000 RPM's than compared to say 7800 for example. That should give me a little more top speed. I have 20" tires running stock gearing (I just changed my sprocket from one tooth lower back to stock). I'm thinking more like higher 70's with those 3 mods... pipe, airfilter, and CDI if Z400's go 70-say 73 stock. Maybe a 5 mph increase. Not that top speed matters that much. Just kinda curious. Its nice to know how fast your quad is so when someone asks you can tell them but personally I think acceleration is more important.

Acceleration is most important, and remember this, would you rather have 1st, 2nd and 3rd gear, or 4th and 5th

Well you couldnt do anything with just 4th and 5th gear anyways... You couldnt get moving to those gears without at least 2nd and 3rd.
