My machine is 48 inches wide and I've had quite a few close calls.

I agree a 100%. I swap sometimes with my friends 450r who has +3" a-arms (with elka susp.) and +4"axle with wheelspaces and no problems at all aside from a little rub now and then. That had to be at least 52". 49" is only 3" wider than most others. I aint even gonna notice that and will still cook through the faster than my z. On another note there are normally a ton of hills around where I ride and they are tore up left, right and center with washouts so the strategy is always to fly up along the side riding the edge. Therefore on a wider atv it will only be easier cuz I aint gonna be as tipsy.

For one, 52" is way to wide for a trail quad. And two, wider usually mean lower, ground clearance is a BIG factor while trying to conquer trails.

Not only that, but look at all the GNCC racers. Those quads arent wide. When your trying to go fast between trees its not good to have a 50" wide quad. Yes, maybe you can fit but try and race through the trees at race speeds and see what happens. .

The width from the outside of the tires of the LT-R450 is 48 inches in the front and 49 inches in the rear. This would be too wide for the endless trails near my house. Here is my solution after talking to my buddy at the local wheel and tire shop.
In order to make it narrower for trail use I plan on buying some ITP wheels for the front and rear. The fronts will go from a 3 x 2 (3 inches on the inside and 2 inches on the outside of the wheel) offset to a 4 x 1 offset. This will narrow the front width from 48 inches to 46 inches. Next, I will buy wheels that have a 3 x 5 offset in the rear and flip them around so the valve stem is on the inside, making them into a 5 x 3 wheel. This will reduce the width of the rears from 49 inches to 45 inches. This should make getting around the tight trails no problem.

if suzuki puts the same type of tech into the lt450 as they did in the z400, the lt450 will spank the yfz. look at the z400 for instance its one of fastest, best all around machines in its class.
