Z400 Big Bore
I use to modify Go-Ped Scooters (25cc 2-stroke) Engines.
Assume the same applies to 4-strokes...
A bigger bore usually isn't going to gain much in speed, more for torque, technically a larger bore is more surface area draging on the cylinder, but more surface for combustion, thus more torque, but not soo much extra speed. (Granted there are variables like gearing, other aftermarket parts, etc)
A Stroker on the other hand will give your engine a longer stroke, and will increase both speed and torque.
The Z400's have a fair amount of torque on its own, much less when you had more aggressive cam's and CDI.
If I had the money, and was in the market to get speed, I'd go with a stroker.
p.s. I thought the Yoshi 450 kit was the 'best', is the athena kit better? or just better for the price (more affordable)?

Here is the thing, the Yosh kit is awsome, obviously they've had some seat time to make it perfect. The only thing is it IS expensive, and doesn't have the gains of the athena kit with the Hammerhead piston. The athena kit is supposed to come with a new cylinder with improved water jackets for cooling. I probably wouldnt get the athena without the HH though. The HH was made for the athena kit and makes huge power at the price of having to use race fuel because of the 14:1 Compression.
Answer: Yes the Yosh kit is as good as any out there.

The Hammerhead piston is 14:1 only with a DRZ base gasket. With a stock Z400 gasket it would be 13:1.
When I say race fuel I mean high octane fuel. You could probably run 93 with octane booster, but don't quote me on that. Alot of people use Sunoco 110 (Cam2). This can be purchased at select gas stations from the pump from $5-$7 a gallon.
Another great place to get this is at a race track of any kind. Usually they will carry a large assortment of fuel, 110 (purple), 112 (blue) and red (higher octane??). Also you can usually get VP or alcohol there too.
You can also buy fuel online by the barrel, just not sure where.

I have an Athena. DAB Racing 1-801-773-5522. Absolutley no disappointments. You need a carb, cams, pipe, ignition to make it work like it should.. Here's some numbers for you..

Athena Kit
HammerHeadz Piston
No you don't have to bore as the kit replaces your entire cylinder.
And actually if you plan on going with a HH, try contacting athena about a kit minus piston.
