Default Balancing tires

Read a post or article somewhere about tire upgrade or something. Can't remember where I saw it now but didn't pay much attention at the time. Believe it said something like "after new tires were mounted and balanced we went for the trails". Now that I'm getting new tires and rims I'm starting to wonder about the balancing part. Didn't think ATV tires needed to be balanced. Pretty new to this so pardon my ignorance. Can't seem to find any previous posts about this. Can anyone educate me on the need to balance or not? Thanks

Well if you are going to be high speed riding on hard packed roads then yes, I would have the tires balanced. For trail riding, no, I don't think you will need them balanced. The trails are so rough you would never notice an out of balance tire.

Could you balance mud tires? I think it would take a lot of weight. My 26" mud lites are not balanced and roll great at 52 mph on gravel.

I have never balances mine, nor heard of anyone else ever doing so. The only time I have ever heard of balancing mentioned is when racers with beadlocks or reinforcing rings get dirt/mud loaded up in there wheels and it causes some noticiable vibration.
