this kid i know is selling his quad sport 230 its an 86 its bored to a 250 and he wants 400$ for it. now he said the chain jumped and cracked the case which he jb welded back together and he put a new chain on it and he said that the headlight and the kill switch need to be wired up the wires are there they just have to be connected. also it needs 2 front tires. and a seat cover because the seat is ripped.
think its worth it?

at first the $400 sounds like a good deal but to me it sounds like that quad is beat pretty bad.
the cost of the parts to fix it is not gonna be cheap. I would let this one pass. its a pretty old quad and parts are gonna be difficult to find, plus after you fix it up it still is only gonna be worth $400.

well i can get it for 400 all it needs is front tires and for me to hook up the killswitch and the head light the wires are all there their just disconnected. the quad isnt beat bad its in good shape. i can get 4 tires and wheels off a 89 blaster but i dont know if they will fit i know the front ones will and it wont cost me anything.
what do you think i should do

well if all you have to do is rehookup the factory connections for the light then it dont seem all to bad. I would go over it reall good, check that all the brakes are working good , check for worn or bent tie rods. check wheel bearings and axel bearings make sure they are good, take it out for a few laps and try all the gears in the tranny, make sure you have good throttle response( no bogging or back fireing). and make sure the shocks are working properly. if these major things check out to be fine then I would say go ahead and buy it . if the shocks are blown or tranny dont shift right dont buy it. hope this helps you out, nothing sucks worse than buying a quad and then haveing to dump alot of money into it just to be able to ride it.

yeah i had that problem with my kawasaki dirtbike. it didnt run when i baught it changed the plug it ran and dropped about 500$ extra into it and it still needs the back shock rebuilt and a new back tire to be in good condition. ive never had a 4 stroke thats why im asking im going to take it for a drive tomarow see how it goes if it doesnt bog or backfire ill take it for 400 the back brakes i looked at them earlier the pads are about half down meaning i still got some time left on them. also could i take tires from a 89 blaster and put them on there because i can get them for free im just not sure if the sizes are even close

If youve got some mechanical skills, or the desire to get some. I would give it a go atv087. It could be a good project quad. I would make sure that the jb welded area looks good and doesnt leak. Or you could be learning to spilt the cases real soon.

oh trust me i had the motor off on my kx and rebuilt the whole thing and it was a royal pain. im going to check it out later on with my friend who owns a 4stroke quad and he knows his sh*t so hopefully everything goes well. also the kid said the chain keeps popping off so i dont know why it would do that
