GC1218-

I could see a little dirt on your butterfly too. What amazed me is how clean your filter looked! Mine was much dirtier, but yours looked brand new.
The bottom shot of the foam looked perfect. That leads me to beleive that maybe the dirt/dust is actually getting in through the top....like Kdog said.

You need to contact your dealership immediately! Have them call Suzuki and replace your filter with the Uni or Twinair.......and extend your warranty.
If they give you a B.S. story, tell them you are filing with the BBB and state attorney generals office.

Also.......give the quality control dept at Suzuki a call and let them hear it! The number is in this thread.
Sorry to hear your new bike is eating dirt and killing your engine....like the rest of us.

GC1218, From the looks of those pictures your throttle body seems clean compared to the other pictures I've seen on here, I think if you just put an after market filter on ASAP you'll be fine because I imagine it takes A LOT of dirt to ruin the engine and it just doesn't seem like yours is dirty enough to have much dirt have gotten through.

UPDATE FROM SUZUKI USA

I called and expressed my concern about dirt/dust bypassing the filter.

Recommendation is to take to dealer and have them inspect. If it is a manufactured defect, Suzuki will pay for damage/replacement. His own words.

What EVERYONE that is experiencing this problem needs to do is call them up and complain.
I asked about a recall and he started side-stepping.....so i think something may be in the works.

Here is the number! 714-572-1490

That almost sounds like it'd be a good idea for me to keep my stock filter in my KQ so when/if I ever need a rebuild they will have no excuse, because after 900 miles I'm pretty the damage is already done an aftermarket won't likely help me...do you agree?

Toyeboy,

I dont know if thats the best method, but if you have experienced dirt/dust getting in (like everyone else) then call them up and tell them about it.
They take your info down, but still want your dealer to diagnose and call it in. Evidently they have been hearing from dealerships because the instructions were quite clear........beleive it or not, more and more people are seeing this problem! hmmmmm......go figure!

Call them up if you have taken your filter off and seen the horror show inside. If not, count yourself extremely lucky and ride!

When I bought mine I got the promotion 2 year warranty for free so I'm already covered till end of May 07. I will be saveing those pics just in case. I have since then showed some friends and they seam to think that it is suck a little bit the it is no big deal. I guess that I'll take it to the dealer and see what they have to say. Is Suzuki paying for a Uni filter and what did you mean by extending my warranty Gladesteen?

GC1218,

Some people have posted that their dealership had installed the UNI / Twin after witnessing the dirt ingestion from the stock filter. I do not know for sure if Suzuki paid for it, or the dealer.
Extending our warranties is what Suzuki should do for those of us who have experienced this bad filter syndrome. I don't know if they will, but it would give me piece of mind. If they are willing to rebuild engines when they fail, that is fine too.

Definitely keep your pictures and any other evidence.....just in case!

ok I think I'm gonna take it to the dealer and let them see the small amount of dirt in the throttle body first hand and ask them about getting a foam filter covered under warranty. while I'm there I'm gonna ask them to do a compression test and a leak down test. does anyone have any idea what kind of compression the King should have. I would like to see what the compression is so I can keeps tabs on it and see it is getting worse.

ok I spoke with my dealer today and they don't know anything about the filter issue. I had them orded a Uni filter and they said that they would contact Suzuki and see if they will cover it. I am gonna take the King in and they will do a compression test and a leak down test. I'm looking for someone that might know what the compression should be.

I just received an e-mail from UNI. The NU 2486 ST filter is NOT the right number for a 700 King Quad. UNI says the right number is NU 2494 kit.
