2005 King Quad break in time
#1
I was just looking through the shop manual for my 2005 King Quads and it recommends 1/2 throttle for the first 300 miles of operation. That seems like a fairly lengthy break-in time to me. What have you guys been doing regarding breakin procedures?

type in "break in" here in the search field and you will find a lot of info. I personally will be doing what the link below states......

The discrepency between the owners manual and the shop manual is my concern. I don't understand why there is a difference between the two. If I recall correctly...The owners manual mentions ten hours less than 1/2 throttleThe official shop manual states 300 miles with the same throttle guidelines with no mention of hours that I can see.
My first KQ is about a year old and has about 50 hours on it and about 400 miles. My 2nd KQ (my wife's) is 3 weeks old and has 12 hours on it and 110 miles.
Both run like watches. Awesome in every regard except for the tires. They just have way too much sideways slip.

I don't think babying it like that will do it any good.
I broke my KQ in the mototuneusa way, lots of full throttle bursts after warming up fully. It runs like a champion now.
BUT
I changed the oil and filter several times in the early weeks, whether it looked like it needed it or not.
You may or may not choose such a severe break-in but know that if you feel like pinning it now and then, no harm will result.
