Breaking in the top end on 2 strokes??
Ok so here is the oldest question that everybody has asked at least once. I have been on some guys website that says beat the hell out of the motor right away and the rings will seat better. I dont know just doesnt sound right. So what do you guys here on atvconnection do to break in your 2 stroke. I think everybody that has a 2 stroke should post so we can get some input on the procediure and compile the best way to do it!

Breaking in the top end on 2 strokes??
I have bought 5 new snowmobiles in the past.
My procedure:
Start engine and warm up to operating temperature (gently rev it up occasionally) and let cool.
Repeat several times.
Hit the trails and run it progressively harder, but don't hold the throttle wide open for an extended period.
Get 20 miles on it, and let'r rip.
Never had a problem.

Breaking in the top end on 2 strokes??
I've read alot of mixed reviews on 2 stroke break in , and ive seen both done first hand. I dont know of any long term problems, because they were not mine.I can see valid points from boths sides of the spectrum but for me i personally like to heat cyle them at least a little. Here is what i do... first run it for 5 mins on idle shut it off let it cool then check the head bolts for the right torque.(2)idle 5 mins with small (maybe 1/8th turn) blips throttle shut it down , cool off , check head bolts. (3) same as 2 but little more throttle.(4) ride it with less than 1/4 throttle constant varying throttle 10 mins, shut down repeat cool off ect.(5)same as 4 but more throttle maybe half turn but varying at all times(6)same even more.(7)full throttle blips cool and check.(8) check plug to see if running rich or lean adjust jets and settings accordingly, change oil and plug,. (9) ride it easy for the first couple hrs then just ride normal, i know its not perfect but it works for me and has been for years now.I cant see taking the chance on blowing up a fresh motor when an hr or 2 might make the difference of 6 months or so maybe more? on the life of the engine.. just my .02 later

Breaking in the top end on 2 strokes??
Well, ill tell you how i broke in my 88 lt250. Start it up for 2-3 minutes, rev it a little-kill it-let it completely cool and make sure the head and cylinder bolts are tight. Repeat step one. On the third start i rode it very gently for about 10 minutes and let it cool. Then i ran a full tank through it riding it very easy, just putting around--took a couple of days in a field. I also ran about 32:1 during break in. After that i mixed 50:1 and let her rip. six months later after about 13 serious times of going riding im still at 175 lbs of compression and running awesome.SO i know that way cant be so bad
