I just bought one and the parts guy told me 10 hours which would be about 5 full tanks of gas. I have not read my manual yet though. I plan on doing that today. If you have any other questions manual related let me know and I will look it up for you. Guess I could even scan and email what ever you need.

I just checked the owners manual....chapter 5, page 2......Valve clearance......interval 200 km/100 miles/1 month...it indicates I for.....Inspect and clean, adjust, lubricate or replace....in this case it would mean inspect and adjust if necessary......this is reiterated chapter 2, page 5 of the Suzuki KQ Service Manual.....

Did you have your first service? If not than after 10 hours you want to have your first service done which will include adjusting the valves if needed. That is part of the break in process. That is in chapter 3 pages 7-8 If you are already past this point then Kenora is correct. I did get the chance to read my owners manual today so everything is still kinda fresh in my head.

I take mine to the dealers for service but my guess would be yes? I know on my last quad they adjusted the valves at the 10 hour mark when I did my first service? They also changed my oil in that first 10 hour service. The book for the King Quad says under break in Chapter 3 pg.8 "Observe your Initial and Most Critical Service The initial service (break-in-maintenance) is the most important service your vehicle will receive. During break-in operation, all of the engine componets will have mated together and seated. Maintenance required as part of the initial service includes correction of all adjustments, tightening of all fasteners and replacement of dirty oil. Timely performance of this service will help make sure you get the best service life and performance from the engine." Then as Kenora stated in Chapter 5 on pg.2 under Inspection & Maintenance it says to Inspect the valves at the 100 mile mark and then again at the 1200 mile mark. Honestly since I get all of my service done at the dealers I would have no idea by looking at them if they needed adjusted or not. Sorry. Also did you upgrade your filter? If not it is suggested that you do that asap. I have not had my first service done yet as I just bought it or else I could tell you if they adjusted them at that point or not. I guess ask some others how many miles they have on there KQ's and when they got there valves adjusted.

when I took my KQ in with 100 miles or so, and had the first service on it, I asked the technician if they adjusted the valves and they told me that it is not necessary. Apparently the ones they did check were well within specs. They also said that hydraulic valves dont need to be adjusted.

*** note*** I did not take my quad for the 100 mile service to the same dealer that I bought my quad from.

I did take my quad back to the dealer that I bought it from for its smoking engine problem and they did the rebuild. I will ask them about valve adjustment the next time I talk to them.

Oh I am sure that they are but since I have no mechanical skills at all I would rather play it safe then sorry. Plus I figure if any problems ever arise in the future they can't say I did'nt keep proper maintenance since they did it all.
