Eiger Tranny Snorkel??
#1
New to the forum but I can already tell there is some great info here. I have an '05 Eiger w/ snorkel. I want to snorkel the breathers for the tranny/clutch. Primarily the rear, anytime I go in a deep hole I get water in and the belt slips. Anyone done this?? Seems simple but I dont want to create a problem, thanks.

I built a snorkel for both of my '06 Eigers and my '06 Vinson. They were both about the same. I will try to take some pictures and post but the basic design was as follows:
Air Box - (somewhat easy) - Remove factory snorkle, come out of the factory rubber connector into a 1.5" pvc 90 almost straight down (fits perfectly), then 90 straight along the left side of the motor (have to cut some of the plastic under the seat in the front left side of the fuel tank but not visible from the outside), go from 1.5" to 2" right next to the carb then continue to under the left front fender, 45 and 45 again to go straight up (try to avoid 90's when possible).
Tranny Intake - (really easy) - Remove the entire factory "box" under the front "hood", save the factory rubber 90 and clamp a 2" pvc coupler into it, then 90 over, 90 over again and then 90 up.
Tranny exhaust - (real pain) - remove the entire tranny exhaust assenbly from the rubber connector just next to the rear u-joint. Throw away this clamp and USE A NEW CLAMP with a 2" pvc coupler, then make about a 160 degree turn slightly downward to the front left side of the bike. The pipe will actually go UNDER the left motor housing (just above the left footpeg) but still be above the bottom frame of the bike so it does not bottom out. Use a variety of 22's, 45's 60's to make it go back up to the left fender.
The Vinson was exactly the same except the airbox pipe is (easily) run along the RIGHT side of the motor just below the fuel tank and above the exhaust pipe. You only need (2) 90's at the airbox, then convert to 2" and a 90 under the fender to go up and out.
You can fit all 3 pipes in the "D" area of the front rack on the left side and not interfere with steering or visibility at all on the Eigers and 2 on the left and 1 on the right for the Vinson.
The trick is to try to get to 2" as sson as possible because you are adding resistance to the airflow in the airbox. However, in all 3 of my bikes, I did NOT have to rejet and as a matter of fact, found to have a bit more power (top-end) on the Vinson when done.
Make sure you point the tops of the snorkles DOWN when they come out of the front of the bike otherwise you will get really sick of the "whine" of the tranny (not to mention the heat - feels like a hair dryer) blowing all the time.
My pipes go 18" above the front fenders and I go through water over the handle bars (not always on purpose) all the time without any problem (just stay on the gas).

Thanks for the great info. I used 1.5 inch spa hose for the air intake and converted to 2" pvc right in front of the motor. Hopefully that will allow enough airflow. I might go the easy route and put my rear snorkel through the rear rack.

I would not go out the back. Think about it, most of the time in deep water your front wheels are WAY up (wheelie) which means your back will be WAY under water. If the rear snorkel is going straight up to begin with, then it will end up being near parallel to the ground (thus underwater) when your front wheels are up (unless you make it 6 feet tall and put a flag on it).
