Default lt500 into lt250 swap

hey everyone

i have a 1991 lt250r and i keep hearing how great the lt500 engine swap is into this quad, but all i see is people doing it to an 85-86 chassis. can it be done on my 91? is it harder to do? whats involved? oh and does anyone know where i can find some nice aluminum wheels with the 5/130mm bolt pattern? this bolt pattern seems to be impossible to find on any nice rims. thanks!

Default lt500 into lt250 swap

Hi BSmitty!

The swap can be done in any model year chassis, I would venture to guess the main reason the early years are used more because they are more plentiful, they are lighter weight, they are much more $reasonably priced$, and they are not as desireable in stock form as the later years (Didn't run/handle/etc. as well)

Of course, you must realize that on the early models (And assuming all years need some upgrades) merely doing the swap isn't enough. Chassis upgrades are necessary to be able to handle the additional HP. The '85 I'm working on handled horrible in the stock configuration... Wider arms, better shocks, longer swinger just to name a few should help a bunch.

Wheels?: Try Rocky Mtn ATV in Utah... they seem to be the best place to find this stuff. If not, try contacting Chris at FreeridePowersports.com (Also in Utah)
You shouldn't have any problems finding what your looking for between the two of them.

Dr. Q is the Suzuki wizard. He hangs out mostly on the Planet Sand website, although I've seen him here a time or two. His knowledge of the 500 motor and these hybrid swaps is unparallelled in the industry. (Hidden subliminal message here: Don't let any old 'puppy shop' do your motor work, and/or if you plan to do your own, he can give you all the port specs, etc. you'll need to wake the sleepy beast and make it rock solid reliable)

regards,
