I don't know if you can get larger valves, but the 250 version has larger valves and its the same head. If you can find replacement 250 valves, a machinist can carve the seats to match.
On the stock exhaust (which is what I run) there are bolts underneath for draining oil or whatever that might get inside the exhaust. When I took the bolts out, my plug turned black. Which says to me that my vacumm at the intake has gone up (since its sucking more gas out of the jet). That's a good thing. So, I leave the bolts out and put in a smaller main. Now,,,, I've gone and drilled more holes and welded nuts on the holes so I can put bolts back in them if I want. My plug gets black again. So, I go with smaller jets yet.
Back when I was first screwing around with the 28mm, I was putting towels on the air box to make it run right. The lid did nothing.

ur start up smoke is valve seals. I replaced valves seals and guides and still smoked a lil on start up. As far as my jetting goes i can use vm style jets with my carb, which is same jets as stock carb. Not same size jets but u kno what i mean. Im looking into getting the exhaust p.g had or has with the disks, not so much for power but so i can tune the noise, loud in day quieter at night.</end quote></div>
Mine was loud no matter how many discs, well actually it was quiter till you grabed the throttle!

Actually just google "atv jetting guide" found a bunch of stuff I was wondering about. Also check out supertrapp.com for tuning on the DG (Thanks JustRandy)
I don't think it is all hype. When I switched from 2 strokes to 4 stroke in MX, years ago, my race bikes had 'trapps and, the wrenchers were always playing with the number of plates...
Come to think of it, my Dad had 'trapps on all his Harleys... He was quite the mechanic, wish I would have listened to him more when he was alive.[img][/img]</end quote></div>
Same here my dad was quite the wrench turner and I wish I would've payed more attention.

Well sounds like I have my work cut out for me Are you talking about the exhaust the I have now which is the DG Xcellerator. It has 6 disc and the best thing about it as far as I am concern is the sound I hated how the old (original) sounded, almost like it was sick, now it sounds like a 4 stroke thumper.
<div class="FTQUOTE"><begin quote>[i]Right on! The journey is the fun part!
The 450 is 49 inches wide stock. I dont know what the 400 is, but I'm sure no where near 49. That was why I mentioned the 450. But you're right about 400 parts being everywhere.
I think pretty much any arms you get will work. You may have to press them closer together and then straighten out the bearing bores so they are parallel again. The hard part will be positioning the shock. And then dont forget you will need longer tie rods and brake lines.</end quote></div>
Yeah but my trailer is only 471/2" wide with the sides on so I definitely don't want to go ove 47 that is why I didn't put the durablue spacers on the back as well cause then I would be with BigMc over 49" in the rear instead of a little over 46" currently. Thanks for the information armed with research and your responses I should be able to pull this off.

Be careful of the frame width too when deciding which arms to use. The 450 n 400 might have a wider frame where the arms bolt up. You could put 450 arms on and still be only 45... Who knows...
I think 47 is good. Any wider and it wont fit in the back of my truck.
Dont you love the way they build trailers? I have a 5x8 and the first time a threw a piece of 4x8 wood on it I found its an inch or so less than 8ft. I got tired of not being able to use the gate, so I made it a couple inches longer. Same thing with circular saws. They are made to cut things that are 8 ft long, yet they only have a 6ft cord. So you end up getting 6ft into your cut and the plug at the end catches the edge of the wood and you have to stop and flick the cord in order to continue the cut. Its shocking how poorly engineered some things are.

My valves are from a 250. B4 it was taken from me I was doing a 273 kit made for the 250........... I had twin top ends (since I don't know the REAL name, Very top, valves, guides, springs etc) The running motor is gone, but got back the "spare" "top", gonna use it, AND the webcams STAGE 2 with the 265 kit I have.......... Bless you Randy and your simulators, but I am going with what I have and the advice of my Scottish friend!!
The man started this fiasco, we all know I am just a poolman, not a mechanic..The BigMc is a 230 STUD as far as I am concerned, I gotta go with my boy!!!!!

the 32mm carb is a seriously labor-intensive venture but i'm tellin' ya, this thing will waste much bigger bikes. the biggest problem with the 230 head is that it's the head from the utility motor and the intake port is just a hole that dumps into a boxy little area where the intake valve is located. the mix enters and just swirls around and some of it gets sucked in when the valve opens. no real directional guidance towards the valve. kinda like the difference between a stock air cleaner and ram air induction on a car. my builder filled up that cavity with some sort of aluminum epoxy and then ground out a nice smooth round port right down around the valve, put a multi-angle grind on the seat area of the valve to help a little more with flow. the flange area on the head has to built up to mount a larger intake boot big enough to accept the carb. it's a stock 32mm from Sudco. came with a 200 mainjet and it runs great. i raised the needle clip one notch and messed with the air screw

So, does he do mail order from taxifornia???
I read WAY back you giving the same account to BigMc, that same discription you just gave, I think that is the reason I let Sudco talk me into the 32..
I don't think my machinist is on the same level with yours.....................

PG, its no offense to me that you use stage 2, lol. I was just reporting.... Not bashing.
Man,,, that 273 must be one heck of a ride!!! A 32mm with an engine that takes good advantage of it!
I thought it was BigMc that posted WAY back that he called Sudco and a 28mm was plenty even for the mods he had planned??? I remember that account too of filling in some spots with epoxy. That's the first I heard of that, so I'm going to remember, lol.

No offense taken... It was a blast for the 3-4? rides I gave her before she was gone... I don't count the 1 ride b4 I got the crank done. Rode bulls that were smoother!!!!!!!!!!!
The BigMc got his carb info from White brothers.. Malhombre has the kick azz builder with the alumaweld!
Put it this way, if you guys told me to take a 5 gallon bucket with a paper straw on the bottom and hang it off my handlebars and call it a carburetor, I would probably believe you.
I can build you a badazz waterpark, swimming pool, spa, creek, pond........ as a matter of fact I can make water do things you can't even imagine, but this whole internal combustion engine baffles me..
I CANNOT SLAM ANY OF YOU ALL, EVEN IF I WANTED TO! Just trying to figure this thing out from ya allz experience, and what little common sense and deductive reasoning I still have!
