Well I know the guy that had it before me and I have receipts for everything he did to it over the winter. New tires shocks and brakes all around, new coil packs plugs and wires, oil changes every 3000 miles...and it's barely broken in at 297000 miles lol. Seriously this thing runs drives and shifts beautifully. If I can get a year out of it great, if I get more even better!

He's super happy with the 230 as well. It makes a good bike for him to cruise around the farm on his days off.

You should get more than a year out of it, if you keep the salt off lol

So now you're in the market for a new quad to haul in the back of the new truck

I really want a 200x now...maybe a 350x!

Ok I cleaned the iac valve out...nothing. Unplugged the maf sensor while it was "chugging" and the idle smoothed right out. Off to the store to get a can cleaning fluid and we'll try that. I think it's been replaced or was a used one off another engine because it has "94 ranger 2.3" in yellow paint pen written on the bottom of it. If a good cleaning doesn't take care of it I'll let her chug away till she's warmed up...suzukis and 230's and stuff...lol

You'll have 7 lifetime supplies of maf cleaning fluid in one can lol

Are you sure you don't have an air leak after the maf? If there is more air coming in than the maf knows about, then it will cause problems.

I'd go with the 350x. I like the headlights

Everything seems ok but why would it smooth out after it warms up? I like working on stuff with few or no sensors lol. This one looks pretty nasty so a good cleaning can't hurt anyways.

If it has an air leak, then it's leaner than what the computer thinks since air is getting around the maf. When it's cold, it needs more gas, not more air, so it runs rough when it's cold.

Here's a page about testing the maf Ford Ranger Mass Air Flow Cleaning, Removal and Installation

If you get a reading that bounces wildly, that means you have an air leak like I did.

Also, I think any vacuum leak counts. So if you have a rotted hose somewhere with electrical tape wrapped around it, lol, it could be throwing the maf off.

Air filter loose or has a hole in it?

Maybe the metering rod (needle) isn't right?
