Thanks fishguybri! That's the best deal so far so I'm 99% sure that will be the cam chain I'll go for

Hey guys I'm back!

Just want to rebut on the 230 jetting.

Now I've finally gotten my 230 back up and going on a K&S Switch /w Off/on/hi & push kill on the left handlebars working perfectly. I am having jetting issues, I lost the air box lid and dropped in a uni filter & outerwears on. Now its starting to sound more like the jetting around what you guys are using.

I am using a 20 idle. It will idle ok and then slowly hike down to a halt. (Like say, idles for 2 minutes then it would die unless i gave it a little rev). I've leaned out the stock TM28 needle one step. Seems fine, but I'm pig rich up top. No top end power what so ever.

I've got a 250 main in there and would like to know who else has a uni filter & open air box and what they put for a main. Randy - I recall your's was something like a ~210-220?

I also attempted to drive it besides revving it freely, it goes to about 1/3 up the rpms and then it cuts out its so damn rich.

pig rich like a 1/4 throttle will sound like a clean rev wfo with a black puff during the rev.

I've got a 250. I was going to risk dropping it to 215/220/230 area, but I'd like to see what you guys have got.

Before my timing chain broke due to some loose screws/nuts floating around inside the engine about a week or so ago, I was using a 210 main jet the stock 17 pilot and I have my needle circlip set all the way down on the richest setting. I was constantly fighting with it. It seemed to change everytime I rode it even if I stopped for awhile and then rode it again. Now I am in the process of tearing down the motor and ordering the bigbore 260cc kit and webcam stage 2 as well as replacing the clutch plates and springs. I am hoping the carb will be more manageable with the new setup since I will have all the afore mentioned and already have the DG Xcellerator pipe. This isn't probably helping but I guess all I can say since I've have using the TM28 it's been an uphill battle.

I may switch over to the 32mm myself. The guy that was on here a couple weeks ago said he put the 32 on and it was basically "plug-n-play". I could use the 28 on the 250 4wd I have. It was in a fire and needs a carb anyway.

I still say there is no way the stock needle for the 28 will ever work right no matter what else you do to the rest of the carb. I can recommend a needle that will work just as good as the needle I have, but sudco dont carry it. They list it in the catalog, but when I called to order it they said they dont carry that one. Figures. But, I found another supplier a while back that also lists it. Havent checked for sure if they actually have it though. My carb ran good enough. Now the quad is laying in pieces all over my garage and carbs are the last thing on my mind.

As for my main jet, there is no way to cross reference my drilled jet to a real mikuni jet. The way jets are made on the inside,,,, I drilled all that out and mine is a straight hole.

When you get it idling and it revs up or down by itself, that means its lean. Doesn't matter what the plug looks like. Its lean. Again, the needle is too big. Wrong needle.

When it cuts out at the top end its because the needle is too lean. Mine did the same thing until I changed the needle. Even at the richest setting, its still leaner than the leanest setting of the needle I'm using now.

That needle is garbage and should be used for knitting rather than metering fuel in a carb.

What you want is the 5L1 needle and it measures 2.518, 2.518, 2.330, 1.811, 1.297

The needle you have is a 5DP39 and it measures 2.540, 2.517, 2.444, 2.270, 1.588

You can try getting some sandpaper and mounting the needle in a drill and sanding the needle down to those specs if you have a micrometer. But that will take a lot of determination. I sanded a few 1/1000 off my 5L1 using that method a few weeks before I tore the quad apart. It worked quite well, just tedious and time consuming.

Snowing in the deep south. Mother nature decided to give me a birthday present I guess.
Got about 2 inch's of the white stuff so far. Its been coming down for about 4 hours. "Blind squirrel finds a nut sometimes" I guess. Ive got pics of the 230 in the snow during the "ice age" of 93. Ill need to pose it and get a few more. PG, love the look man. (welding mask) Its working for you.

You're lucky, all I heard last night was we're gettin some snow. Woke up this morning expecting not to be able to get out the door.... Not a flake to be found anywhere. Just cloudy skies and 37 degrees out.

Anyway, Happy Birthday BigMc! Enjoy the snow before mothernature wakes from her drunken stupor and realizes this is the south and we're in a drought.

Happy B-Day BigMC!
Well it did snow here last night ended up with around 4 inches. Unfortunately I can't ride in it I will be happy when this rebuild is done.
