85 to 88 Suzuki LT230S Quadsport help.

I did not realize. It has been a terrific thread. I use to look so hard for LT230 info and now I just have to go to one place to talk to a bunch of nice knowledgable Lt owners. I can't wait to get my Wolverine back together so I can put some time and effort toward the LT. I am going to try and lengthen the extra Swingarm I have. I am not sure how much longer I should make it though. I do not want to lose the GREAT maneuverability that it has stock. I also have a new carrier to put my new bearings and seals in, new rear brake caliper, and kick a@# carburator some nice guy gave me!

Your right there. The 230 is a very good tight woods quad. Stretching the wheelbase will bring up a compromise. I can tell you that the extra length will help keep the nose down under power. The machine is already light in the nose. When you add power, the effect only multiplies. To much thumb, your on your bumm.
Of course, you will need to get another shock to support the extra levrage of the longer swingarm. Which can get expensive, quickly. It may be possible to run the stock shock with a 2 inch over. But any more than 2, no way.
Decisions,Decisions,

just bought a 1985 lt230s-f quadsport. smokes like a train. ( well that is being nice) i have been reading thru out the form and was wondering a few things like the flat side carb, if you get the Name: Mikuni Flat Slide Carburetor - 28mm Bore Manufacturer: Mikuni Spigot Mount: 35mm does it come with the right jets for a stock motor? is it to big for stock? I also was wondering about the starter kit that was mentioned in a thred on Tue June 13, 2006 1:53 AM, that i have not been able to find the right site for. The smoking i will assume is the rings unless someone knows something i dont ( i have never worked on bikes just cars and 2 stroke marine ) that might have insight on something else. i ordered the shop manual from bikebandit and should be here in a few days. thanks for the help. i am just wondering if anyone else can see this post or just me? i got some parts in today and getting ready to take it apart.

you might be able to order the carb with certain jet sizes, but I have no experience with it. maybe contact the manufacturer and ask?
If you are going to put new rings in the bike while you have it apart, I would go with the next biggest common over bore size, such as 0.030" over. Also i would get a piston with a higher comression such as 10.25:1. While you have the head off get the valve seals and springs replaced. Sometimes people will re-ring a piston because of smoking and after ward it still smokes because the valve seals are leaking. And while you are at it another $100 for a better cam would do wonders.
These are the things I am looking into doing in the near future.

Good carb. I got one just like it on mine. This one came as a kit from White Brothers.
I do know that it was recommended for a modified quad. It may be to much for a stock bike. I do not know the jet sizes for the Mikuni "non W.B. kit" unit.
The starter kit can be found in the back of your Dirtwheels mag.

If you have all the parts, and machine work done ahead of time, you can "knock" it out in a weekend.
You will need a valve spring compressor to work the valves. And a tourq wrench for reassembly. Thats the only two special tools I can think of.
Unless you find something else when you go in, and the cylinder is ready for the new piston, you can rebuild the top end of yuor zuk in a weekend. And still have time for a little break in ride.
