So, that's kinda why I'm not all that interested in 450's. Just an accident waiting to happen.
My wishlist is a thundercat.
</end quote></div>
Seems a little contradicting there....lol
Yeah, I don't have the right areas around here for a 450 either but the technology that goes into them are cool.</end quote></div>
I was wondering if you'd catch that.
Yeah, the idea of the TC is scary! That much power and that much weight is pretty intimidating. But the main reason I want it is for pulling power, not trail riding. I may even do some small-scale farming with it. Who knows. All I know is I'll never be wanting for more power when I have a TC around!
Any of those utes suck on the trail anyway. My friend has the 700 kingquad and I'd much rather be on the quadsport unless there's work to do.

Well I don't know if I'd say that, its fun to take some technical terrain or just cruise in total comfort every now and then.
and I don't know how the QS would fare in the Iron Range (one of my favorite places......

Sorry about the humongous pictures. That top one was published in QUAD magazine twice. Some guy buried a brand new Land Rover LR2 up to the mirrors in that mud hole later that day! Took like 4 trucks to pull him out!

Nice Albun atvman!
I have a t is not as good in the tight technical trails on our land due to the gearing, but that is not what it is made for. I could change the gearing but why when I have utes and the 230.
Randy the utes are great on the trails when you want to cover the miles and not be worn out at the end of the day. With the right rider, it can hang with the sports and not get left behind to much, at least the Grizzly my cousin had was that way. it iw one of the lightest with 700 cc and 600# dry.
any body have any idea what I can get for a set of front and rear platics in red with a black hood? the fronts and hood are in great shape and the rears I have mended 3 cracks. only 1 crack had an open end. the others were contained.

Thanks, and I would say about $300 to $350? I don't know though, haha New you'd be looking @ around $500.

Yeah, I think technical terrain is fun. Love rockcrawling!
The mud.... Ah, about 10 mins and I'm ready to hit the trail again. Either I make it thru the pit or I get stuck. Either way, in 10 min its not fun anymore.
Those rocks reminds me of a spot on a mountain trail I ride. I could make it farther up there than you think. Some spots its the king quad in the pack that slows us down! One time my bud backed inbetween some trees... It took him the better part of 1/2 hr to get fully outta there. Of course its the MX only expert trail.
http://www.georgiaoffroad.com/map.php I've been to most of those in the Chattanooga area.
They're all mostly trails that look like this:

Just miles n miles of trails. They maintain the trails with bulldozers and the dozers make a LOT of "jumps" in the trail. It gets to be a pain in the *** after a while. Literally. I was talking to a guy that suggested the "jumps" are probably erosion barriers to slow the water down the hill. Makes sense. I figured they were for jumping!
Anyway, my point was (unless I'm site-seeing) the utes get kinda boring or scary. Nothing really inbetween. That's the way I see it anyway. Most people ride utes up there though. So, it has to be fun in a way. Maybe I'm too high-strung?
My friend with the 250S says he likes to go up there and just "cruise". I think its just that he's slow!

When my buddy first got his King Quad he took it in some water to see what it would handle. He never did again.
Then he got it stuck in some mud and had to winch out. He never went in mud again.
Then he rode a few times with me on the trails and tried jumping and sliding it. Shortly after he bought two warriors, LOL. If he hadn't broken his arm, I don't think he would have anymore miles on the king since he got the warriors.

Well, my review of the cams is this: The 230 cam sucks! You guys really should upgrade to something else, lol.
I took a ride with the 250 cam then swung in the garage and popped it out. Slapped the 230 cam in there, fired it up and the first thing I noticed was it didn't seem like it revved out as quickly sitting there in the garage warming up with me punching the throttle.
The thing I really wanted to measure was the low-end power. So, I warmed it up in the trails and hit a 3rd gear donut. The tires were cutting an inch or two deep rut in a circle while the engine was lugging pretty hard. I couldn't rev it out, but it did better than the 250 cam. Not by much though. Insignificant really. Not the 4-5 hp difference the dyno charts were saying. That's for sure!
Next I did a few burnouts and wheelies in various gears. It seemed to wheelie a little easier, but the more I rode the less sure of that I was. So I went down by the spot where I usually drift pretty easily in 4th gear. I could barely get it to slide and when coming out of the curve it definitely wouldn't rev out as far and seem to take forever to get into 5th. I did it a few times and it was a consistent let-down.
I decided there is pretty much nothing about the cam I liked. I must live at 9000 rpm because I didn't notice much of a difference on the bottom-end power but a huge loss of topend. It didn't take me long til I had the 250 cam back in. Yeah, the 250 is faster and all-around better. Now I can just blimp the throttle to bring the front end up or break the tires loose. With the 230 cam I had to fan the clutch to do those same things. I don't know what's up with that software, but its not indicative of anything I felt in real life.
I'd pay around $50 for a 250S cam if I saw one on ebay to replace a 230 cam. It would be worth it. Much more than that and I might just get an aftermarket cam though.
My next review will be of the webcam and the megacycle cam. Curiosity is getting the best of me and I just have to know.

Left cam is the 250 cam. Middle is 230. Right is LT4WD.

Look how loopy the 250 cam is! The 4wd cam has a sharp dropoff at the right of the lobe.
They're labeled G, E, D respectively. (not on purpose, lol).
If you guys ever have the valve cover off, pay particular attention when applying rtv to the area shown in the top of this pic:

You do NOT want the rtv to squeeze onto the cam bearing that is all too close! So, each time I "pop the top" I pratice just how LITTLE rtv I can put on. And definitely around that bearing area! Just wanted to give a heads-up on this one.
This cover is uncleaned! I just took it off. (The black globs at the bottom is some kind of paint or something from the factory... Not rtv). Pretty clean for a "goop-jpb".
There are also 2 long bolts that have washers and maybe some rubber or silicon under the heads. Make sure you clean and use new rtv on the 2 bolts/washers or it WILL leak oil.
This pic I snapped just because so many people want to know how to set the valves or wonder if they have the timing 180 out:

The cam should be positioned as shown and then used the feelers to set the lash. It cannot be 180 out of time because the sparkplug fires everytime the piston is at TDC (+ whatever advance the cdi uses).

hey randy, you can put a 250s cam into a 230 and acheive better performance?
would you be able to just follow the directions out of my service manual for puttin in the stock 230 cam?
this sound like a quick, easy, and inexpensive way to get some performance out of my 230, if of course I read your post right and am not jumping to conclusions.
