Well I'm home from school this weekend and the old 230 started on the first kick! I was kind of surprised since I had ran it dry out of gas before I left last time! Once my bottle of engine de-greaser warms up, I'm going to polish up the engine and take some pics and video for my photobucket page.

Oh yeah, that's some cool stuff! [img][/img]

I've been meaning to pick your brain as to why my "pond" isn't stagnating. It stays pretty dog-gone clear not to have any airflow or never being disturbed. The best I can figure is the shallow regions have plants that must filter it somehow. Either that or the water continually springs up from the table and runs off to the road. I don't know, but I can see a good 2 feet down at least.</end quote></div>

Sounded like you had plenty of rain this summer, so that helps.. If you soil has a decent amount of lime (keeps ph almost neutral) and the water table is probably coming through several layers of different size aggregate (filter) and clay (flocculant) plus plants (O2)= and damn near perfect NATURAL pond.

Plus from the old pix you sent, it looked like there was a pond there before, just probably filled up with sediment over ther yeears. The best place for a pond is usally where one used to be. Who knows how many years it took to fill up with the junk you had to dig out?

Alright fellas, I did a quick de-greasing on the motor and took some pics. Plus I have the new Supertrapp stickers on there. I wish my EVS chest protector came with some stickers. Oh well.

Call EVS and ask em for stickers. Free advertisement.

Looks good! You really need some width and length though. Will really be sharp after that.

I don't think mine will ever be as clean as yours. That snow really scrubs those tires. I remember when I was a kid wearing my dirty shoes out in the snow. After a bit of playing around they looked brand new again!

I'm still working on my plastics. Not sure how much I want to put into that. Its going to get all beat up again the 1st or 2nd ride on the mountains. Kicking up those rocks are brutal. And my back rims act like rock tumblers.

Yeah, that's how I got my Supertrapp stickers, so I'll be giving EVS a call tomorrow.

And yeah the snow really does clean the tires up, but it helps that those tires have yet to ride on dirt. They've only been on snow.

And hopefully sometime this week I'll be closer to getting that wider front end. I don't think I'll stretch the swing-arm though. I'm not a huge fan of that look and I like the compactness!

Well, my friend's grandfather said there used to be a pond there. Not sure how deep it was. I think it was more like a marsh or wetland type thing. The soil is very much clay, but not the red kind that everyone expects of GA. Its blue or grey. As I was diggin and carrying it away, I decided to "pave" my trails with it. Big mistake. That stuff is the ooeyest gooeyest mud you've ever seen. I figured a layer of clay would keep the dust level down in the summer, which it seems to, and its a pretty durable surface, but once wet its a mess. Anyway, under the blue clay is a lot of small rocks or pebbles. Mixed with the clay, it makes digging especially tough. Its like hitting and dragging the teeth across a layer of concrete. This summer I'm going to try to get the digger actually down IN the hole and try digging at it.

I don't think the pond really filled up with any sediment because its mostly blue clay that I've never seen before. If anything, dirt is carried away as the water comes up and flows to the road, thru the tile, and to the neighbor's property.

Another interesting bit is the old well behind my house that is about 500-600 feet south of the pond. Last July (in the drought) I decided to see if there was any water in the well and how deep it was. So, I tied a rock to a 100ft tape and ran it down there. No water, but when I brought the rock up, it had a clump of red clay stuck to it. It was 40 something feet deep. I don't know how far downgrade the pond is, but I'm sure its at least the 40 ft plus some. Riding from the house to the pond is entirely downhill. So, if its safe to assume the well used to have water, that would mean the water table used to be much higher. Therefore, there would have been a decent pond where I'm digging now.

Everybody loves my well water. I don't know what is so special about it, but anyone that comes here wants to take jugs home with them. My friend's grandfather told me what it was, but I forgot. Something like "rock water" "rock spring water"... Something to do with rocks. He said its special and the only one around here that he knows of. The guy that lived here before was related to my friend and his grandfather, and considering his age, I listen whenever he speaks. Just can't remember the particulars. A long time ago I found when I armoralled my tires, they didn't look so good. They were shiney, but it wasn't quite right. Then I found a can of prestone tire cleaner and used that to clean the tires first. That did the trick! Once the tires were clean, they would really shine with the armorall. Now days I used brake cleaner. You can scrub all day with any other cleaner and can still turn a box of rags black with brake cleaner. The trick to nice looking tires is to start with CLEAN tires.

A cool trick I picked up from a guy on one of these forums is to remove your brake master cylinder top and stick it to a belt sander for a few seconds. Its shines it up really nice. I suppose you could polish it further, but its 10x better than that black look right off the sander. I consider that a staple mod for anything I want looking nice.
