L2 cache seems to be what makes one system faster than another. If cpu speed is like the cc of an engine, then the L2 would be like the valves I guess. More valves, the faster you can go with a smaller cc.
But anything at all is going to be lightyears ahead of what you have now. I don't see how you could go wrong really.

I've never used AV software. I got a virus once when I download and ran a questionable crack for an app. It took a few days to sort everything out again, but it was my own fault for not trying it first on a bum machine. If you don't download anything like cracks, ****, filesharing, etc... Its highly unlikely you'll get a virus. Now, you might get adware/spyware.
In any event, there are plenty of free online scanners to detect stuff like that. Its just not worth the hassle of running a full-blown AV hog like norton or whatever. I do recommend zonealarm firewall. Highly! I wouldn't connect to the internet until I had that installed.

2mb L2. That's a lot. I only have 512kb on my 2.6ghz rig.
Here's a comparison: Compare Intel Core 2 Duo E6400, AMD Athlon 64 X2 5000+ EE (F3)

I downloaded the demo of Crysis (Probably the most graphically demanding game to date), just to see if I could run it, and it runs smooth as silk on full graphical settings! Needless to say, I was pretty impressed.
Why is it that desktops generally have a higher processor speed?

Mine's one big lemon, but I like it. I got the 4x4 reg cab w/3.0 n 5spd that never sees 5th gear. It will pull darn near anything, but won't go over 75-80mph. Not for lack of gearing either... It just doesn't have the power. Luckily I didn't get it to race though. Its small, fits in the trails, carries my quad, and doesn't seat more than 2 people (on purpose!).

Might be a high-tech redneck.
Ok, so you have the permanent check engine light too huh?

Man, 2:45 and I'm STILL studying. I hate school, but I hate tests even more. My professor just emailed the class (at 2:30 am!!!) saying we can have 3 sheets of notes and if we get there early we can start early!! What a dumba$$! There's going to be a lot of PO'd people tomorrow!
Oh and its a 9:00 am class, not an afternoon one or something! Its most people's first class of the day!
