that is the biggest air cleaner ever, of all time. does it have any trouble at all getting air with that? ive been turning over ideas on what to do with mine when i rebuild it. i was thinking of something like malhombre did. but now im thinking of a mix. maybe a box like his and using a filter from a car instead of a uni 2 stage. ive decided to do 1 of 2 things for my engine. id like to put a 250 in it and then put some extras on like a cam, carb, and filter. the other way, obviously, is to just pump up my 230 with said extras. my hopes for finding an engine are dwindling rapidly though.

a couple questions: on a stock 230 chain guard, are the rear 2 bolts allen heads? i felt around on them the other day. i didnt look under it, i was running out of time.
what carb do you run? is a 28mm flatside good or should i go up to a 31 off something else? would that over carb it? i dont do a lot of WOT and i like my bottom end. i dont race it but once a year at little sahara OK. does that 250 shock bolt up or are the mounts bigger? im also considering new shocks. what i hear, stocks arent that great.

You need an airbox unless you have some kind of fuel injection. There won't be enough vacuum to suck gas from a carb otherwise.

I don't know about the bolts on the guide. Been a while since I saw anything stock lol

28mm is tops. Your stock 26 is probably ok if you want lowend. No point in messing around with jetting and everything to do with the 28 if you never rev out fast enough to need the flow. I tried a 32 with my airfilter and couldnt get it to work. That tells me that the 230 just cant suck enough air to warrant a carb that big. The 28 barely works with a bored out dialajet helping feed it fuel. You can get a 32 to work with an airbox, but doesnt that defeat the purpose of having a carb that big if you have to restrict air just to suck enough gas??? 26 is good for you until you start pulling some cfms.

I cant remember on the 250s shock. I assume it would bolt up since the frames are pretty much the same, but I cant say for sure. Been too long. Locate one first and we'll go from there lol
