9 back surgeries?!? Would that have anything to do with the tall cans of the king of beers? LOL, that's one expensive hobby you have there.
My pains come mainly from hanging on. Its like hanging from a monkey bar for 5 hrs straight. By the end of the day the grips feel like they are lined with razor blades. Sometimes I wish I had a belt to strap myself to the handlebars and relax a little.
A friend of mine used to go riding with us on his king quad. We would put one of those soft coolers on the back rack and fill it with 2 12packs and a bag of ice. We've done this several times and never lost one can. By the end of the day the cans were rubbed clean of all the paint, but none ever exploded. Try that with the 230s and its a mess.

i made a holder out of pvc pipe with a screw on cap, say 3"pipe a lil longer than a 20 oz bottle, good for keeping toools and whatnot clean and dry. i also use a milk crate with 2 u bolts i bolt to my grab bar to take the saw and whatnot. randy that is a wide frontend, and i like that extention of the upper shock mount !!! im going to try something similar and try to use newer z400 shocks and maybe 2" extentions on the a arms. looks like u need a lil wider axle in rear..... P.s. if i didnt ride my quad today id swear u had mine!~!!!!!! looks almost identical

Lots of cool gizzmos out to reduce vibration, tried them all, they all work.
No, tall cans werent the cause.... Growing up in the 70's and early 80's, helmets, chest protectors, he!! even boots weren't cool.......... Duh, wonder why I hurt myself every time in practice, or fun riding.....
I never claimed to be bright......

I have some pvc laying around... I might do some experimenting with some foam padding as a liner.
The ride is much much better. The shocks preload are set on the softest position and are still more supportive than before when they were at the stiffest. I'm not sure I understand that because I didn't do anything geometrically different than stock. I basically moved the shock mount and everything straight out 3.25 inches. I think its because the shock has more leverage on the rest of the quad by being farther out. I may end up moving the shock at a more flat angle and gain some suspension travel. Did you know the shocks only compress down 2 inches???
If I were you I would go the full distance with the a-arms and remove all wheel spacers and put stock rim offsets back on. Longer arms and having the center of the tire intersecting the balljoint rotation axis is a combination that can't be beat.
In the back I'm planning either wheel spacers or new rims that are offest a little. I'm not sure I want to go too wide in the back because of an already weakly designed swingarm.
If you do use z400 shocks and the spring is bigger than the 230 ones, you will have to move the bottom shock mount or else the spring will hit the upper a-arm. At this point, I think a stiffer spring is a step in the wrong direction.

This is one of those cases where "do what I say and not what I do" is in order. I use about as much riding protection as I would for a walk to the mailbox. Of course, I am riding a mid 80's quad, so I guess 80's riding gear is in order, lol. God forbid something should happen, but I just try not to push my limits too much.

I wear ALL the protective equipment, now that I am older and wiser (yeah, right!)
I guess I have always taken that "Go big, or go home!" stuff, a little to serious..
I have a few friends that used to think I was stupid for wearing all the gear, then I'd let them ride the ATC 250R................
They figured out REAL fast, the term a little skill goes a long way, does not apply on an extremely fast three wheeler!! ANY trike for that matter!
