Default What do you think ?

I would like some information from you Suzuki experts.
A while back I started a project Z400. My friend totalled his 04 Z400 and broke some bones while doing it. He got out of the sport and I bought his motor. from there I bought a brand new frame from a dealer. I had it gussetted, painted it custom to match my wife's helmet and gear. Put on a Lonestar Excallibar adjustable axle, Lonestar anti-fade lock nuts, Full HMF exhaust, Uni filter, Pro Armor nerfs. Plastics are like new and tire are 90 %- 95 %.
I now have an opportunity to buy a full race ready CRF450 quad totally modded out. The Z that I built I just finished. It took me a few months to get all the parts and to put it together. It looks and runs like new.

The problem is that I thought buying a frame from the dealer came with a title, but I was wrong. Now I have a beautiful quad with no title. I checked with the DMV and was told that I could either buy a wrecked 04 Z 400 and have those numbers put on it and get it titled or I could get it titled as a "put together from parts" quad and get a title. I would have to show all my receipts (which is fine since I have them all) and pay a $75 inspection fee. buying a wrecked quad would just add to my expense list and I'm not sure I could recapture that when selling.

I have a couple people interested in buying it. One wants me to get it titled first ($75 plus the hastle of getting it inspected and titled - which would be hard with my schedule) or a guy that says he is interested in it.
I need the money from this quad to put toward the race ready CRF450 I want to buy. My question is which way to go? Do I go through the hastle of getting it titled or just try selling it as is with receipts and bill of sale but no title ? And if I get the the title first, do I sell it for more since it has title with it? and if so does the title of "put together from parts" make it worth less even though it's in great shape and has some aftermarket parts on it ?

Please let me know if you guys have come across anything like this, and give suggestions on which way is best to deal with it. I don't know exactly what it's worth so any help in the area is appreciated also. Thanks for the info and feedback guys.

I was thinking isnt the vin plate just welded to the frame. if it is and you have the old frame just get the title for the old vin and switch plates thats what I would do so you have a frame matching a title

The old frame (the one my friend wrecked) he sold basically for the title that came with it. When I ordered a new frame from a dealer straight from Suzuki I assumed that it came with a title, but nope, no title no numbers. It came with a blank plate where the numbers should be. They said to have the dealer stamp the numbers from another Z400 on the new frame. The prob is that the old frame was sold title and all. If I had known that the new frame didn't come with numbers I would have kept the old frame as well. I just thought that surely a new frame straight from the manufacturer would come with a title - WRONG. So now either I buy another frame and get deeper into a quad I already want to sell, or I have to get it titled as "put together from parts" and wonder if that will effect how much it's worth, or I can sell it as is and let someone else deal with getting it titled - which hurts the value. The only good thing would be to sell it to an out of state person that won't have to jump through the same hoops to get it titled like in Florida. I don't know. I just wish I had known ahead of time that the new frames don't come with titles. I thought I was doing a good thing by getting all new parts and building a great machine. I never would have guessed it to be a problem when I wanted to sell it.
And now I need to get the money to buy the new quad that I want. It was the open class quad of a semi-pro rider and is everything I could want in a quad.

Mucky - I looked at your pics page...very nice quad. My friend had a 470 Z that ate my DS650 up ! and my DS was a fast machine. I have a new respect for that 470 kit.

How interested are those people? If they are serious, bump up your asking price by $100 (to cover inspection and title), and require a non-refundable $100 downpayment, dependant on your aquiring a title.

The deposit idea sounds good, other than me having to go through the grief of having to do it myself. I have it priced very low in my opinion to compensate for someone else doing the leg work of getting the title. Assuming I did the title work, how much would be an appropriate asking price with title in hand ? If the net gain is more than the hassle of getting the title then I'd do it to realize the additional money, but I am also pressed for time. I need to sell this quad before I can get the fully modded out crf450 that I want.
