Default Power Tip Question...

I am curious about the power tip found on ebay and here: http://www.2rracing.com/index.cgi?Pa...edDepts=186055

The PT seems to be like a stock tip widened and with the baffles removed. That would mean you are going to have a rich or lean condition. I have seen on other forums that if you have a Uni or Twin Air, you are fine. So in saying that, are you safe to run a Power Tip and Uni/ Twin Air filter without a Power Commander or similiar device? Thanks.

Yes you are safe with that setup (and I would remove the airbox snorkel as well, it's the rubber l-shaped device if you reach inside and in the back of the airbox, it will pull right out fairly easily, everyone says they don't really seem to serve a purpose as far as water protection), but the powertip being sold on eBay was a lot cheaper last year if I remember correctly. Then the guy must have realized there was a fairly large market for these things, and he jacked the price tag up. If I were you, I would get a Yoshimura exhaust instead because this powertip doesn't flow enough out in my opinion anymore to warrant the money. As far as the PowerCommander, or better yet, Dobeck TFI goes, you won't get the gains out of the other mods because these two aforementioned fuel-adjusters are pretty much like rejetting your carburetor for a fuel-injected machine. You are adding air to the system, so you have to add fuel with either of these. Make sense? The sound isn't even improved except SLIGHTLY when you decelerate either, so I wouldn't get it for that. If you want a good comparison of how it sounds, just take the cap off your stock exhaust, pull the spark arrestor out and put the cap back on. Sorry to be so windy with this, but another note of interest is that on your King if you punch it from a dead stop, you will eventually recognize a mild "lag" up to about 9mph. After 9mph, it kind of jumps a little bit and really starts booking. Once you've been riding for awhile on your King, that lag becomes kind of an annoyance, especially when you get with your buddies and they start talking about who's got the most gonads in their machine. Yoshimura is coming out with another fuel-adjuster at the end of February, very similar to the PowerCommander but probably with a map specifically and fine-tuned for the setup I described to you above. That's really nothing special when you consider that they might also have the ignition lag fixed as well, and just not say anything about it. They've responded in e-mails about fixing the lag with mixed signals, so pretty much everyone is waiting for them to release their EMS (what it's called) and to hook one up and see. I would wait til the end of February if I were you and I was in the market for a fuel-adjuster, basically.

Default Power Tip Question...

Thanks RedGoblin. I have noticed a lag, but to me it is a very small lag. I have raced a stock 05 Raptor 450 and beat him by a hair. He had me at the launch, I guess because of this lag, but I caught up to him at the last second. Now before I get the BS flag. This guy was being cocky as hell. He was telling his buddies that he would whoop my @$$ and my heavy 700 not even trying. SO, considering he didn't give it 100% until about halfway, once he realized the power of the KQ, I still beat him! What is even funnier was at the end when you slam on the breaks and slide to a stop, his break cable snapped and he kept going into some think bushes. He got what he deserved. Anyhow, the KingQuad is a freakin' beast in stock form. Imagine how much more of a beast it will be when a solution to the lag is available. I am so glad I bought the KQ and not the Polaris 500HO.

Funny story. Perhaps you mean a Raptor 350, not 450? Either way though, beating any sport machine on a 4x4 is always kind of fun because I, like you, have run into so many sport riders who think our quads are slow as molasses. I dispatched a Blaster last summer and the rider was just shocked. Like you, he got me off the start, but this machine has one hell of a mid-range.

No, it was a an '05 YFZ450. It looked a little abused. You could barely see any quad through all the mud that was caked on it and it sounded like a chainsaw on crack. I know it was a 450 because the guys friend told me it was a 450. He couldn't believe his buddy lost. Regardless, I still beat him. Even though it was by a hair and his machine was not well taken care of, I shut him down! I also raced and beat a '05 Scrambler 500. I just flat out dominated it. I'm sure that there are Scramblers and Raptor 450s out there that would spank my @$$ and then some, but sometimes I get lucky!

If it was a YFZ, I must be straight-forward with you here and say either:

A. his bike was messed up big time
B. he didn't know how to ride it
C. both

That said, still glad you got him. Just for the record, there are no 450 Raptors unless they bore a 350 out. It's 350, 660 and 700 from the factory.
