K&N filters failed, now i need a new cylander

My dealer suggested that a K&N would not filter out as fine of a particle as as a stocker would however he had them both in stock and had no reason to not sell me the more expensive K&N, he did however suggest to gain more air flow that I could drill holes in my airbox lid and install the UNI prefilters they are a reusable foam filter with a mesh cover on them they come in a pack of 6 for under $10.00 and my dealer had them onthe shelf. New stock filter and $10.00 prefilters still cheaper than K&N and made a noticeable difference it's now actually running a little lean but I'll be installing a pipe and re-jetting next weekend. I was able to fit 5 of them in my lid, a flat lid would easily fit more. All you need to do is drill a 1" diamter hole, push in the filter, and oil and install the foam elements.

The moral to all this::
Dirt gets in. Especially on trails and tracks. I'm told the dirt gets so fine that it'll go thru any filter.
I've seen both K&N and foam work well. The secret is constant filter cleaning. More than ppl think.
Sparks is recommending his foam filter cover with 10-40 on it.
My daughter cleans her filter and pre-filter every racce. That's about every 20=30 minutes of riding.
We all know this cannot happen on our trail/fun riding but also explains how more dirt gets in that we want.
I've allways said that unless you are needing the high air flow of a high rpm motor, the K&N/outerwear is a must. If not, foam works well.
Either way, maintenence is a must.

LT80 is correct. I have my boys clean out their airfilters on their race bikes after everyweekend along with changing out the low end oil on their 2 stokers. I help with that myself because I don't want them to put to muchor to little oil back in but they are learning.
Plus, it gets them used to performing the normal upkeep on their quads on their own at a young age. I've seen way to many kids just get on their quad's/bikes and run the crap out of them without even realizing that while they are really fun, there is a cost to have that fun beyound dropping the $$ at the dealer and on gas/parts. Builds responcebility on their part on something they have a direct interest in. I've had other race Dads come over and make coments along the lines of "geez, my boy doesn't even know the difference between a vise grip to a open-end wrench"... That's their fault in my opinion.
Start them young... who knows.. they may make a career out of it....
