hey, i wanted to know if anyone could explain to me why u need to change ur jets and when you need to. I have an 86 lt250 with fmf pipe and silencer, boyesson reed, wiseco piston, uni filter and thats about it for the engine, i like to ride in the hot and cold, i live in pa so the temp goes from about 95 to 0, what size jets should i use for both winter and summer. if anyone could tell me i would really appreciate it

I had a '86 Q-racer years ago, and don't remember what size main jet they come with. Jetting is a sometimes tricky game with a 2-stroke. I'm assuming you have increased the main jet size after adding the mods you listed. If not you will probably have to. Take the main jet out of your carb, and see what size it is. There will be a number on the jet. It's always a good idea to keep a variety of sizes handy, both larger and smaller. Also, be sure to check your plug regularly. Don't just pull it out after ideling, you need to run the motor hard and then check it out. The plug should be a light brown color. If it's too lean your plug will have white, lighter colored look to it. Too rich and it will be black, and or wet. Just remember, if your bike isn't running properly(sputtering, poping, cutting out on top end, etc) you most likely have a problem there.
