Value of an Ozark for a new rider
#1
my dad is considering buying a lightly used 04-05 Ozark 250 for my sister to ride. she has never ridden a quad on trails only through fields, in the yard etc. I say it would be a good fit for a rookie rider, but he seems to think it is a little much for her! maybe its just because I am used to a Raptor, Banshee, and Zilla, but is it possible for a 250 four stroke utility quad to be too much for a 20 year old? Also what is a fair price, it is like new.

I don't think it would be too much quad for her, I rode with a guy at "Rumble on the Ridge" that had one and I was surprised at how he was able to scoot down the trail with out a lot of effort, not a ball of fire, but the guy had a good time no doubt. As far as a fair price your best bet would be to look on cycletrader.com there you'll find the lowest, highest, and average price of any machine that you're looking at. I was also pretty surprised to see that there are quite a few aftermarket parts available for it, so she really shouldn't get bored with it.

Bought 2 new Ozarks two years ago. Havent rode many other quads so i cant really compare it to others but my wife and i have a blast on the Ozarks. I know they arnt as fast as most but you can go down trails very easy and are peppy for a 250. One of mine does 49 mph and the other will go 53. Not sure why one is faster than the other. My cousin got a honda 350 4x4 last year and they are pretty close in acceleration and top speed. Although i can pull ahead of him most of the time. I would recomend a Ozark to someone who wants a good quad that doesnt cost alot and wants to just have fun out there.

for the most part unless the trail is open and top speed commes int play, also dont expect to got through the same mud.on my ozark i kept up with a blaster and 300ex idk if that last bit helped at all

As far as the Ozark being "too much for her" I think it has a lot to do with her riding experience and personality. Has she ridden a lot before on dirt bikes or quads? How fast does she like to go? Is she very aggressive or is she a timid type of person?
So it's hard for us to judge this. We don't know her. You do.
I put my mother on my Ozark and she was scared to death! But she is a rookie and has a timid personality. I know someone else who jumped on a Banshee and rode it like a pro and they had never been on a quad before.
Different experience and different personality types.

if your sister is fairly athletic, the ozark should be fine. i had mine for about a couple of months before i felt that i needed more power and speed and moved up to the kfx400. the ozark was my first introduction to the atv-world. i think it's the best for a newbie. it doesn't have a clutch so she wouldn't need any clutch playing. it's also relatively light and nimble. and the power will not intimidate her. i loved it and will always have fond memories of it. as for price, you can a brand new one for $3,499. and if you don't mind shelling out about $100/month in payment, you could finance it for less than 40 months.
