Peformance mods for z 400
#1
I was wonderig what else i could do to my 05 z 400 to be able to run better with my cousin s 02 raptor. All i have for motor mods is a white bros. e series slip on.My cousin has a k&n filter and a full yosh pipe.I m looking more at bolt on mods as the motor seems kinda complicated on these new 4 strokes.I bet a good cam would help tho but just looking for your opions and under 500 dollars to spend. Thanks
Also if you have any ideas i d appreciate it,on my cousin raptor if you dont shut the gas off when not riding it leaks, i havent looked to close but it seems like in the air box,I m pretty sure its jetted so could that have something to do with it(to big of jet)? Thanks

Do you think the full pipe is worth it i ve heard there not worth the money unless you go farther into the engine?I wish i d have gone with a full yosh system to begin with though. Also what way are you talking about regearing up or down?I kinda like the stock gearing because it s torqey in the trails and if i go up a tooth in the front i thought i d loose to much on the bottom end. Thanks

first of all, i hav e-series on my Z and it does minimal gains. very not worth the money. luckily mine came on the machine when i bought it. i suggest full yosh comp pipe, re-jet and that thing will rip as is. make sure u hav good jetting size tho, yosh can prolly give some suggestions. that will run you about 400-450 total. your cousin's problem is carb related. clean the bowl and see if that helps, my Z did it until we cleaned and flushed the bowl.

On the Raptor, I had an 02 also, and the floats were not adjusted right from the factory, search the forum, there was a huge thread on checking and adjusting them you should find very helpfull.
I now have a Z400, and if you looking in my pics, that Z was piped and jetted and had the EHS airbox lid and it was fast, could hang with the Raptor just fine except in an all out long drag race, but short races it was very close. So what these guys have told you is the way to go!!

My wife has an 05 Z400, It now has a full ALBA pipe w/ wisper tip, k&n filter, jet kit, procom cdi box and ELKA suspension. It flat out rips. Like everyone else on here stated you must go all the way to get the rip.

Drz base gasket. Get the header pipe, and cams. Air filter, and jet kit. Get a plus +1 counter shaft sprocket and leave the airbox lid off, and also a Hi rev cdi box. You still won't outrun a piped raptor, but you can really shorten the gap now. Yesterday i seen bone stock 660 raptor, outrun a z with all the mods above except the base gasket, and cams. Good luck.
