i have a 1986 Suzuki LT230 Quadsport. It idles fine with no smoke, but when i give it gas it starts to smoke ALOT of white smoke. I had just changed the oil too. So is it possible that its burning oil? or would the smoke be a different color if it was oil?? im not sure. Help me out. thanks.

oil burning is normally a blueish color and white is normally water.
but if i'm thinking correctly the lt230 is a 2 stroke and air cooled
to me it sounds like your running the wrong oil mixture.
and are you sure its a 86 model I thought the 230 wasnt until 87 but I could be wrong
I know in 85/86 suzuki made the 250 and it was water cooled

well i know that it is a 4- stroke, and air cooled. so maybe im wrong about the year, was just a guess because i saw similar cycles with that year. i just changed the old oil and put new cycle oil (reccomended by a local dealership). Basically the only time it smokes is when i give it gas, when it idles it doesnt smoke. so hopefully its nothing to worry about. let me know of other possibilities. Thanks alot.

i have another question, if the engine is totally stock, why would i need to rejet? couldnt i just clean through the carburetor and see what happens from there? becasue im sure it hasnt been cleaned in a while. i jsut dont think that rejetting would be necessarry, but i will if there are no improvements after its cleaned.

If this just started after an oil change it's not going to be a jetting issue.
A wild shot in the dark would be you put too much oil in the case and it's sucking oil into the combustion chamber somehow. Look in the air box and see if there is oil in there. Check your oil on the stick and see where your at.
