Eiger turns off
#2
I have a 2003 that does that sometimes... Turn the idle up... should have a idle **** just above the manual pull start... I had this problem pull the carb, remove the main jet and the air jet and make they are completely clean.
Look in the bottom of the bowl and clean completely. These things won't idle or run that well with any dirt in the carb. Clean the air filter, and the screen just behind the air filter... make sure the top of the air box is on correctly. Clean the filter element with gas and wring out... let dry...
One last thing run gumount carb cleaner through the system once in a while..... Set the tank fuel valve to PRI (prime, this allows a constant stream of fuel to carb, good for cold weather operation) and open the small phillips screw on the bottom of the bowl.. this drains off the sediment in the bowl while it's running(keeps the jets clean). Do this occasionaly... maybe before a long ride...
One more last thing... check the air / fuel mixture screw on the bottom of the carb near the intake throat... (it's a bitch to get too) turn screw with a short jewelers screwdriver clockwise until lightly seated. then back screw out 2 1/2 turns. This is a good starting point. Listen to motor at normal idle... move screw in until the motor starts to stumble the back screw out about two full turns until motor clears.. Don't go to far or the motor will run rich and run like crap...
One more last thing... watch your spark plug... should be brownish color (ideal).. wet or sooty black to rich with fuel
whiteish color too lean.... can ruin engine if left for to long... richen the mixture up.. (by opening the air / fuel screw up some...) Change plug occasionally....
Hope this helps...
