Your friend should be careful. If I remember right, on trails/connecting roadways where there isn't a posted speed, speeding is considered riding beyond the speed that is "prudent". I've met a whole bunch of the wardens and somehow I don't think my 68 would be considered prudent. Never mind 88! I ride mostly So. Maine or the trails around Moosehead Lake, and Jackman.

Very old thread, however, I would have to agree that the fastest stock ( top speed ) of any ATV.....back then, and probably still today was the LT 500. Key word here is "stock".

LT 500 was probably #1 bone stock, Banshee was pretty darn fast too. After that, probably the Raptor 700 and then the 450cc class sport quads that dominate racing now. The 1000cc 4x4 utility quads and utvs aren't far behind though. 88 mph is not what a "stock" turbo rzr tops out at, I'm sure some tuning has already been done.

I bought a 2003 DS650 bone stock, except for the tires I put a bigger tire on the rear, and it would run 91 MPH I ran beside a gsxr1000 and that's what his speedo showed. the older quads do run a lil faster then the newer ones but the newer ones can take off a lot faster as for speed ds650 is faster. In a drag race the lt500 will smoke the ds650 not in speed but acceleration ,in a 2 mile run ds650 would win. But I have to give the fastest all around to the ltz400. That's my opinion and is in no way backed up by facts or stats iv owned 1 and I have out run the lt500 in a quarter mile on black top.

The ds650 gets overlooked a lot. I bet a lot of people that ride dunes love them.

They are overlooked because they are a lot heavier than other quads ,there fast as hell but takes awhile to get to top speed. They where made for the sand dunes that's 1 of the reasons they didn't have reverse built for wide open dunes where it wasn't necessary to have.

My son got his 2016 Scrambler XP 1000 up to 88 on a long smooth Utah dirt road. Thing is crazy fast with a great, comfortable suspension that soaks up most of the bumps.
