Usually have to put a new plug in it when it's cold to get it to fire. When started, runs great jetting is spot on. FASSSST! If I shut it off for more than about 30 min. its back to a new plug before it will start again. I refuse to blame jetting, because nothing changed in that department when this problem arose. Also, the thing will sit there and idle smooth as silk for just as long as you'll let it. I was wondering about an ignition problem, weak but not completely faulty stator or coil?? Has anyone else ever run across this?? Need to aleiviate this problem to sell it if anyone is interested, bought the 06 ltz400. If anyone has any ideas please let me know.

I'll check that, but it was just rebuilt. New piston, cylinder, and crankshaft less than 20 hours ago. I just think that takes out so much of that possiblility.

its your ignition coil on the stator. its too week to burn the gas and oil on the wet plug. i would ohm out your stator to see what condition its in. also make sure to check the pick up coil(little back box on the stator.)

I take it you have experienced this same problem before?? I did ohm my stator windings and they didn't match the specs I had, but coming from an outboard motor background, I place very, very little faith in ohm readings. The only true way to know is with dva voltage output, but I have no specifications for that. My book also doesn't give values for the pickup coil. If you have encountered this same problem, I have no choice to take your advice, thanks man.

heres the specs right from the suzuki manual. i don't have a fancy ohm meter, just a craftsman cheapy, and it works good for me. i've had alot of problems with stators, so i always check them first when the quad is running like crap. also the pick up coil is more prone to fail because of its location. it gets in more contact with water more than the others and rots out. if it is the pickup or any other coil i would suggest buying a complete ricky stator. that way your starting off brand new, and not repairing an original, with hard wires, or rusty conections.
Stator Test
Lighting 0.5-1.0 Ohm Wires Y/R & B/W
Source 315-475 Ohm WIres B/R & R/W
Pick up 175-265 Ohm Wires BL & B/W
