Default tinking noise???

i was riding around the house today and my idle was pretty high,so i turned it down . all of a sudden i heard a tinking noise. it sounded like two spoons tapping together. it was like tink -- tink -- tink, not a tinktinktink. i thought maby somthing was rubbing against the frame because it sounded like it was around my air filter. when you turned the idle up you could hardly hear it. it didnt sound like it was coming from the top of the motor.

called my buddy that helps work on it and he wasnt sure. he thought maybe timing chain or maybe detanation.
im going to try a diffrent setting on my cdi tommarow. it has three curves and its on the middle 1 right now.

any thoughts?????
thanks.

Default tinking noise???

put a "did" timing chain in it and the were plates, with the higher compression the valves are harder to open, plus the cam stretched the chain

the were plates?????? not sure what you meant there. its only when i turn my idle almost all the way down.tryed diffrent curves and and had the idle up it didnt do it, turn the idle to slow and you could hear it.

it sounds like its around the carb area. its weird .....

you could have a valve out of adjustment . the wear plates are the timing chain guides and most of the time they look good its just they wear
on the side the tensioner pushes on. and if you have heavier valve springs it does tend to stretch the chain a little
and how low of rpm are you running? base idle is 1500 rpm +/- 100 rpm

Default tinking noise???

thats probably what it is, ive had my valve shimmed about a month ago. i turned the idle down almost till it died. when i turn it up the sound goes away. thanks for the help!!! i need to get a did timing chain anyways. i still have the stock springs in, i have a set of kibble white springs i was in a hurry to put my bike together and it would have took a day or more for the shop to do them for me.
