ct pipe for the z
#1
I have a bone stock 03 z400. My plans are to put the Athena 434 kit in with hotcams in a few months but I figured that i'll buy the exhaust now. I was looking at buying the ct racing pipe and i was wondering if anyone has heard anything good or bad about it. Is it loud? Is their a noticeable increase in power? Will it be good with set up that im going to do?

It's been mentioned in this forum that the CT pipe rusts quickly. I have had the full Yoshi system since '03 and have not had one problem whats-so-ever and I take it to the beach(salt air) and raced the crap out of the bike.....Infact, since I rebuilt the Z I kept the same pipe/header. All I did was finally cleaned it up/repacked it after 3 years.
Do your research in this forum for pipe info. A few months back there was a hugh thread about pipes and performance on the Z's.

Damn! I didnt know that they had problems with them rusting. I just saw an ad in Dirt Wheels and it seemed like a good pipe. Never mind, ill just stay away from the ct pipe. Im not going to pay $600 for a pipe that is goin to rust.
Which one should I get? The Yoshi RS-3 or the tri-oval? Is there a big difference between the two?

I run the RS3. Not exactly sure if one is better then then other based apon what mods are done to the motor though.
Don't get me wrong, the CT pipes are good pipes. I've seen a people on here that have them and really like them. But I have heard that they have a tendancy to rust after a short time. CT may have corrected that issue recently. Do your homework before you buy. I chose yoshi because they work with zuki R/D dept to create their pipes. And their factory riders use yoshi. That alone made up my decision.

one more thing.... no matter which brand you choose, make sure you buy the complete exhaust kit (with header) and not just the pipe. W/out the header you are not really getting the full potential out of the pipe. Most companies only charge about $100 more for the complete system. Not to mention, some companies do not sell the headers alone so you can't buy the pipe first then go back at a later time and buy the header....

I have had the CT pipe on my 04 Z400 for over 2 yrs...it isnt rusting. So, I dont know if you want to believe "what people say" or someone who actually has the pipe.
It is easy to install and made a huge difference to performance.
Good Luck

Well I guess I'll do some research before I buy the ct or yoshi. I always hear on this website that yoshi is a good pipe and I always hear people recommend it but the ad in dirt wheels had the ct pipe with a k&n with jets and it gain almost 10 hp. I dont know how much exactly the yoshi adds but i thought i heard like 7 hp ( dont quote me on that because im not for sure). I just trying to get the most bang for the buck!

Another great pipe to consider is the ALBA pipe with the wisper tip if you don't want it to be loud. I have an 06 with the ALBA pipe, cdi box,k&n filter w/jet kit and the 400 is untouchable by others. My wife has An 05 with the same mods and Elka suspension and It flat rips.

You know, ever since i got my bike i had wanted to get the alba kit ( complete exhaust, k&n, proflow, outerwear, and jetting) but i never heard if they are any good or if it adds some good power. The noise dont bother me and i could care less if my neighbors get mad over the noise. They already call the cops on me and i have the stock exhaust and i try to keep it quiet when i ride.
