Default Elka Front Shocks

I have just ordered Elka front shocks for the 06 King Quad 700. The guy at Elka says I will not be able to live with the King without getting the rears also. It costs a ton to put these things all the way around. Has anybody just done the front and left the rears as stock? Will it work? Or can you put Elkas on the front and get by with the HighLifter springs on the rear?

Thanks

I don't have any back ground in the utility quad stuff but I do know that only having Elkas on the front won't give you the overall ride that Elka offers... A friend of mine blew out his rear Elka shock on his KFX700 and put on the stock shock while Elka fixed the rear... He said the quad rode like crap with only the front Elkas on.... he still rode it but couldn't wait for the rear to be fixed.

I think it's kinda like only buying a slip on pipe w/out the header... yeah you have the pipe and sound but you're not really getting the full potential out of the pipe....

If cost is a major issue there are other companies out there that offer very good shocks for less then the prices of Elka... But Elka's are still one of the top of the line shocks imoa.

We put the front Dune Edition on my wife's quad and it's a night and day difference over stock. The stock rear on the Z-400 (in this case) is just fine. It was only recommended to replace the rear if she was racing.

Zoneman,
You will be happy with the Elka's on the front. You will not want to do the HL's on the back. You would be going in two different directions. The HL springs raise the King a couple of inches and the Elka lower it about an inch. The ride height is adjustable on the Elka's but they dial in at about one inch less than stock. You will find yourself doing what ever it takes to get a full set. If something happened to my Elka's and I could not replace them i would not want to keep my King with out them.
Did you take to Sebastien at Elka?
Thanks
David

Thanks for the replies.

Dave,

I did speak with Sebastian at Elka and ordered them from him. He recommended the RR36C with remote rezzies with compression adjustment for the front. That's what I ordered ($860.00). He also recommended the same shock for the rear but with compression and rebound adjustment. I weigh 215 lbs. with a winch on the front. The only problem for me is that this shock for the rear is about $1080.00 per pair. That why I asked about the springs from HL.

Which Elkas do you have? And what about the settings? Sebastian said he would help me dial it in once I got them. They should be here this next week.

Thanks

I have the Elites on all four corners. I have the setting written down but they are in my garage. I can get them and post them later if you would like. You can check out the NYROC forum and a topic that i started about Elka settings. My setting are listed there and there are posts from others that have Elka shocks.
Once you get them and talk to Sebastien, he will give you the information you need about setting them up. He knows his stuff and they have done a good deal of testing on the king.
If you have any more questions just let me know.
thanks
David
