Lt230-s with lt250r swingarm
#1
Hello,
I have an 86 lt-230s that I recently fitted with a swingarm from a 88 lt250r. It took some work getting the swingarm to fit but it mounts up great. Its about 5-6 inches longer than stock but well worth it in my opinion to get the square bearing carrier, plus its aluminum. My question is to anyone that has done this before, what did you do for a shock? My stock one is now obviously way too short and really only keeps the quad from resting on its self. What shock would be a good setup for this quad, I know it has to about 2-5 inches longer in order to raise the height back up to where it should be. Is it worth trying to change the shock mount on this in order to make the old one work? Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Hmm, nobody yet?? Well here is what I found out doesn't work. Mojave shock would probably be the right length but the ends are much bigger and wont fit into the 230s frame mounts. A 400ex year shock is only about 1-2 inches longer but it also has very wide ends compared to the stock shock. Also, anything with a piggyback wont fit because of where the shock mounts on the frame unless I started cutting away parts of that vent pipe. That wouldn't be so bad though because I have a k&n right on the carb so I dont use it or have an airbox anyways.

Well does anybody know how much longer a 250r shock is? Is it possible to mount without the link system? Could I adapt the link setup for a 230?
Please help I need suspension for this quad

The Racer rear shock is 15" long, but I can't help with whether it can be mounted or or not. Some years ago I thought I heard somebody used a Cannondale rear shock (which is 15.5") with a set up like this. You used to be able to pick them up on eBay pretty cheap.
