Default stator questions

Hi , it's possible that the pickup/pulsar coil - that's the small unit normally wired up with the stator, 2 wires - is mounted slightly differently and it has changed the timing - retarded it by sounds of it? Dunno what an 86 quadrunner looks like but I am having lots of hassels with my 00 quadrunners at the present with stators and pickup coils burning out. Why do your own need replacing?
Cheers, PK.
