What's the best tool to use to remove the stripped screws from the float cover? I sure wish they were bolts.

Try an EZ-out or one of those Craftsman screw removing tools. Can't remember the exact name of it but they work good. Then I suggest you replace them with allen head screws, they don't strip out as easy.

if its just the head of the screw where the screw driver/allen wrench goes, take a small drill and drill the heads off the screws and then remove the float bowl and you should be able to remove the screws then

I had this prob with mine. I went and bought a screw removal tool for about ten bucks, fiddled with that thing, cussed and yelled, housrs went by, didn't get anywhere, ready to junk the whole bike, then I took the carb down the the Yamaha shop to my man Todd. He casually took a very small chisel out of his tool chest, layed that carb on the table, positioned that chisel so it would dig into the side of the screw head and push counterclockwise, and one or two taps that sucker was loose. No charge. That guy walks on water.

I used a dremel and cut a slot in them big enough for a flat blade screwdriver.

To keep the heads from rounding the next time, buy a ACR Philips screwdriver. It has ribs on the cross, to keep the screwdriver from camming out.

Same way I did it.
