Default cooling problems

i was out riding my '06 z-400 last week and the hot water light came on. I looked down and noticed that the cooling fan was NOT running. I checked the connections of the wires that go to the radiator and they were all good. I also checked the fuse that is under the seat. Where is the connection that turns on the fan and is there a separate fuse for the fan besides the single fuse that is under the seat? Has anyone else had problems like this before? Thanks for the help!

Yep. Iam not sure on the 06 but mine did the same thing about a year ago.

On the 03, the fan motor has a small drain hole @ the bottom of the it to let water or what ever out of it..

Problem with it is that theirs a small hose that runs out of drain hole & it runs up 1st & not down..

so if you do get anything in the fan motor.. water or what not. some always stays in the bottom of it..

Mine was so rusted that I had to get a new one from Spal.

If yours is toast, dont get a new from suzuki!!! you can get like 5 new spals for the price of 1 for the factory.

you could have a defective cooling fan thermo switch or a bad thermostat. even if the motor isnt stuck it still could be bad.
I know on the 03/05 there isnt a fuse for the fan, the power comes from the ign. switch and then goes to the fan motor, the ground wire comes from
the frame and then to the fan thermoswitch and comes out to the motor. if you unplug the switch and jump the wires together the fan should come on
when the key is on, and if it does then the switch is bad and its the lower switch on the radiator for the 03/05 models. the 06 might be the same
