Older 230 help
#1
I just got my hands on an older 230. There is no plastic and the counter shaft engine cover has been shattered by a broken chain . I am not sure were to start with this thing, I don't know the exact model or year (Engine case says 229 cm3). Is there a VIN? Where is it?
Thanks

The only chain drive 230 models were the 230 quadsport and the 230E quadrunner. Easiest way to tell which one you have is if it has a kickstart and manual clutch, it's a quadsport. If it has an electric start with recoil backup and an auto clutch, it's an E. Both of these models are known for throwing chains and cracking the left side magneto cover.
As for the vin, it's stamped on a plate which is welded to the lower frame rail on the left side. Originally, there is also an aluminum sticker on one of the down tubes of the frame between the front suspension and motor.
What color is the frame, and does it look like it's been repainted?

Thanks yagerzzz,
Thats a big help. The frame has been painted orange, but I managed to find the VIN. Its got a clutch and a kickstart and the 10th position of VIN is "G" (1986 - I think) so its got to be a quadsport.
Thanks again.
