Default Brake drum removal

I am trying to remove the sealed brake drum from my 2003 Ozark. I have the brakes backed off, dust seal removed but I cannot remove the drum. Is there a special tool or puller used for removal? I have tryed heating and tapping with hammer, but no luck. The drum has 3 slots on the outer edge they might be for some type of tool, I do not know. Any ideas or suggestions would be great. Thanks

Really frustrating isn't it when I had my ozark I had the same prob but when reasemblign if you put on heavy duty grease on the slines it will make taking it off in the future alot easier...What I did and it would take a wile is you need to take a reg screwdriver that is strong and wedge it in between the drum and the backing plate and keep prying on it and keep turning the drum around to pull all sides out then take the hammer and pound it back in towards the axle then continue to do this and it will eventually come off. Good luck

Thanks for the reply. I got the drum off it was easy, the shoes were not backed off completely. Once I turned the brake cam down the drum came right off, lol. My problem now is how to remove the brake cam-shaft. There must be some kind of set screw holding it in place, because I have had no luck so far getting it out. I need to see a parts diagram to see what is holding it in. Do you know how to remove this shaft?

whats the reason you are taking the brake cam out unless you are rebuilding the whole thing and if so I would make sure the brakes are tightely sealed...take the lever number 30 and pull that off then push the cam through the hole and it should come out

If the rear brakes are similar to the Eiger, then it might be a real pain. Mine had a little corrosion on the shaft that was making my brakes stick. Getting that shaft out sucked.

I had to remove the brake cam because of internal corrosion. The outer O ring must have failed, letting dirty water in. I could hardly move it. I used some penetrating oil and tapped it out. I cleaned all the parts and re assembled everything. Works like new, thanks for the advice.

Yea the only thing I didn't like on the ozark was the rear brake drum it consitantly got water in mine but I also went mudding a few times and the seals didn't seem to work to well but other then that the ozark is an awesome quad
