Default 88 quadrunner lt250F help

Sorry....hit enter too soon.

Just got this thing, been laid up for about 3 years. Put gas and it fired right up. Trouble is, it's smoking like a chimney. Compression seems good at about 120....any ideas?

Also, I don't have the manual yet...can you tell me what this is for? It's a little knobby looking thinmg on the carb that moves freely in and out, but stays where you put it. Microfiche calls it a "plunger assembly/stater" on the drawing. Mind you, not a "starter", nor a "stator", but a stater. Is that a limiter of some sort?

had a 88 quadrunner 4wd before and when it started to smoke like a 2 stroke chainsaw ... I had to replace the oil ring and a few other oil seals I dont remember exactly..... ask a dealer e might be more helpful than me.
