Default LTR reliability

Hi.
I'm going to buy a new quad in the nex month or so.
I am considering the LTR and I am wondering about it's reliability.
I had an LTZ and I know these are among the most reliable quads out there.
This is a very, very important issue to me.
While I haven't actually heard bad things about the LTR's reliability (unlike the 450's from honda and specially yamaha), this topic got me worried:

SO my question is:
How good is the LTR in terms of reliability?

Many thanks in advance.

as long as you keep up on maintanace it should be a great bike but I have heard about the frame cracking in a few spots so that is a concern(under the seat and shock mounts)...other then that if you take care of the bike then it will take care of you wish ya luck

Just keep up on your maintenance and with any of the 450 4 strokes, you MUST check and adjust the valves!!!
The frame issue has been resolved awhile ago. All the newer LTR's do not have this issue. I have had my LTR for a few months and am very happy with it. The only thing I have is....once in awhile my tranny whines. I have heard other people say the same thing, but they just put a little more oil in and it seems to go away. This is a great quad and you will not be disappointed.

How do I know if my LTR has the bad frame? Is there a list of vins posted somewhere?

BTW, Lfraga...no problems at all...yet. I use mine mostly for trails and love it.

im not trying to sell you on the honda or yamaha and i know this is the suzuki forum but i have had my 450R for nearly 3yrs now without any problems related to reliability. its a reliable quad. i see allot of YFZs and havent heard them complaining either. as with any high revving machine you must maintain it properly! enjoy the ltr, its a nice machine...but maintenance is the key point to all this.

The frames cracking was only on new models. The dealer could tell you where to find the list and should have them too. They are great quads.

what do you mean by check and adjust the valves. Thinking about getting a lt also. Used to a 250r and no valves. Just wondering what you have to check and how to adjust them? thanks

well the 2 strokes only have the reed valve but the new 4 stroke engines are pretty much a race engine and have high compression almost like the 2 strokes, due to this the valves must be checked and adjusted. There is a gap that is supposed to be between the valve spring and decompressor and if that gap isn't correct then the valves tend to get really tight and eventually start to pull and inbed into the heads. There will also be a sign that the quad has trouble to start and that is caused by the valves needing adjustment. It isn't hard to do but the 4 stroke 450's need to be check/adjusted more often then the other 4 strokes. But all of the 450's are awesome machines so don't let the maintanance part push you away from getting one.

how do you know which quads are high revving? i noticed all the 450s have about 60mm stroke. Are all quads with a stroke this short high reving and maintainance demanding?
