king quad electrical issues
i have a 2006 king quad with less than 20 hours on it. it is at the dealer for the third time after dying with no apparent reason. the battery will not hold a charge. they say they cannot find anything wrong with the charging system, stator and no codes are showing up. they are putting in the 3rd battery(of course it has to be special ordered). anyone have the same problem or any ideas. we even took the battery out and charged it overnight and it died after being run all day. thanks.

i agree about the short. the quad is completely stock.
also, the instrument panel does weird stuff(blinking on and off) on occasion and today when i went to pick it up at the dealer(when they said they couldnt find anything) the fuel injection warning light came on for no apparent reason. that is when they agreed to replace the battery.
the dealer says an intermittent electrical issue is occuring and they cannot seem to duplicate.
we own polaris, yamaha and bombardier. no other issues such as this.

9 outta 10 electrical problems are at the connector plugs in the wiring harness, the metal connector inside the plastic plug can be removed with the right tool, depending on what type of connector, sometimes you can use a paperclip, the terminal inside of the plug may not be crimped right or loose or corroded, rusted, and I have seen some wired wrong inside the connector, first make a ground test and a short test, and a parasitic load test all you need is a cheap $10 volt-ohm meter with a 10ma range, if that tests good shake the harness while its running to see if that makes any changes, then check the connectors make sure the terminals are crimped right, and go to any auto parts store and buy a can of CRC Di-Electric Grease and apply the di-electric to the connector when its disconnected and plug it back in, the di-electric grease will make that connection better, stop water from getting in and it wont corriode. Get ur hands on a wiring diagram and make sure the wiring isn't mixed up or installed in the wrong location on the connector. Now you know more than most factory trained, certified ATV Technicians. and----- when you do find out the problem yourself make sure you tell them what you found and tell them in a friendly way how funny it is how you found the problem and they didn't, and how they are trainned and they do that for a living. Oh yea, most newer ATVs made after 2000 have an insulated, or common ground, most guys don't know what that means, and some ATVs use can buss thats either a 2 or 5 volt supply so don't go reading voltage on some of the wiring thinking all the hot wires should be 12 volts. I can find the electricial problem of ur ATV but explainning all to you would take forever, but im betting its just a loose connection in one of the wiring harness connector plugs. Good Luck.
