im 13 and a little bigger than you and i got the suzuki ozark 250 whitch has the same motor but the z is a little quicker and about 3mph faster. i was coming of of a honda rancher 350 it is just as fast or mabye a little faster than the 350. i think it would be a good quad for you. So i would say go with either the ozark or z.

Hey Big Foot, you seem to be a smart young man and your Dad really seems to be involved in guiding you to the right bike at the right time. Your consideration of the Z-250 makes perfect sence; it was totally designed as a transition bike from a mini, to your 400+cc sport bikes. We have (2) Z-250's an 04 & 05; plus a heavily modified KFX700/796 and an Apex 100 MX Pro. We are here in So. Calif, so we ride mostly sand dunes (Glamis & Dumont). You would be surprised what those little 250's can do even with a big ole fatty plus 200#er on it. And the great thing is there darn near indestructable. In our group of riding friends we have a total of (5) Z-250's. What can I say, all around solid bike. Don't pay to much attention to what you hear from possibly some biased responders in this forum. Talk with your Dad, then make the decision that's best for you......Have fun & Ride safe

Z250 or a Honda 250EX, prolly find one of those for cheaper, both are good machines, but you might get tired of them quickly, you would probably be better off and a Raptor 350 or a Warrior, learning to ride and ATV with a clutch is a good skill to have and you can do so much more with a clutch, if you got one of those machines you probably would not get tired of it for a pretty long time and you would probably never outgrow it, they are also good because you wont kill yourself on one, I think a Z400 would be too much. Im 18 and my first machine was a Timberwolf 250, and then I went to a YFZ, I had no clue how to ride clutch or anything, its too much machine for me even now, I wish I had a Raptor 350 or something in that class to learn on more...
