z400 spark problem?
#1
hey... guys.. im new here but i hope you all can have somethin to say about this...i recently (3 days ago) bought an 03 z400 from a racing family... they ride dirtbikes, so the quad is completely stock (motor wise) it rode fine on the street, no problems at all... i took it up to a nearby quarry, and as soon as the bike got wet, shut off... it will not start up with the electric start, the starter is turning, but it's not getting any spark to the plug. If i get pulled around, and keep popping the clutch, it will start, but i have to keep it at high RPM's to keep it on. I let the bike dry off after i got home, and tried starting it around 6 pm. it started fine... went back out at 9 PM, wouldn't start. Tried this morning, wouldn't start...
Any suggestions?

dont get why it would start at 6 and not at nine, should have been dried by then. My cousin had a problem like this once on his z400. he got water in the fuse and blew the fuse and after that it would start and die but after a week or so it was fine. Just check and make sure there isnt any naked wires anywhere.

yeah i changed the spark plug, and went and washed the quad while it was running... i spreayed every inch of the bike... all the wires and everything and nothing shut off, im pretty sure the plug was just foul. its all better now... thanks for the advice..if ithappends again i will take off the plastics and look at all the wires.
