Default Mikuni carb rebuild

I have a fuel delivery problem with my '97 King Quad and the local shop suggested I remove the carburetor (Mikuni 19B9 1 K712) and clean it. I've removed it but I don't know how far to try to disassemble it to clean it. Any suggestions?

What was the problem? Describe it in detail. It will matter for what you want to look at in the carb.

It became very hard to start. I could choke it and get it started, but it had no throttle response. I could build the revs if I brought the rpm's up very slowly, and when I got it revved, it would blow dark smoke out of the exhaust. It seemed to me that it was loading up.

I would just take the float bowl off and see what's in there. Since it idles good I don't think there is any reason to go into the pilot jet.
Also make sure the float is free and does not hang up as any point.
Get a good can of carb cleaner and blow out all the passages.
Good luck and hope you get it running right.

I didn't mean to imply that it idles. It will only stay running if I keep feathering the throttle. What would need to be done to the pilot jet? Thanks.

I see. Just take it out and make sure there is no debris in it.
