lt-80 cold start
#1
I dont feel like loading up my sons lt-80 and running it down to the shop cause of all the snow but I can't get it to start so he can ride in the snow. Everytime I hit the electric start I hear one "click" . I found that it was the starter relay switch so I checked the charge of the battery and it was fine can someone maybe by hearsay tell me what I can do to get it to start? Thanks in advance!
(by the way i have already used a hair dryer to try and thaw everything out but still "click")

Hi,
As a long time LT80 owner, I hope I can help. When you tested the battery charge, was it under a load? measure the volts when you hit the starter,if it drops below 9, could be time for a new one, the stock one is tiny, holds very little charge, almost none in cold weather. You didn't say the year, on mine, found the sealed battery had gone almost dry, distilled water got me a few more months out of it(if you feel like busting open a sealed case.)got a slightly bigger one from Sears, had to remove all the pads in the box to get it to fit. Also, the starter might need a good cleaning out, years of use can leave a lot of carbon dust from the brushes on the commutator, may cause a low level short, and pull a lot of juice. Hope this helps you out, give me a holler if you have any other questions.

Hey it sounds like a bad starter, that my friend is a very common problem with LT80's, I know I owned one.
What I did was when my starter went I said a couple of choice words I won't mention unless I'm striving to get suspended off the forum again.
Then I went out and bought the accessory pull starter for $100 bucks, it goes right were that cover is on the belt housing.
Since your machine is still under warrenty I'd get the starter fixed, but I would also buy the pull start too.
When you do put the pull start on the gear is made from plastic, put some "Vaseline" on the gear before you assemble it on. You cant use regular grease on the plastic or it will eat into it, the vaseline won't.
