I'm looking for some info or tips on an 88 LT 250R I am considering buying,it is in overall good shape, the owner had 1,000 worth of work done to the motor, it has an FMF Fatty pipe and silencer with aftermarket wheels and holeshots on it. Currently it does not run,according to the owner, the carb leaks badly, and it will not start. The price is fairly low, but the bad part is it is several hours away, I am communicating with the owner by email, so I have not had a chance to look it over before agreeing to buy it. Okay, question is, are there any things specific to the LT 250R I should be looking for,as far as problems or reliability,I am not looking to race it, just trail ride, and use it for trips to the dunes ( maybe once a year,maybe less) I just want something cheap and sporty instead of my 4x4 for the few times I do go to the dunes, or big gravel pits.

sounds like a little carb work and you will have a screamer...i would ask about the suspension and other wear and tear parts...i have heard that the mount for the rear shock can crack, so i would say ask the owner if there are any cracks or welds in teh frame/suspension
