4 Stroke Newbie Needs Help
#1
I just bought two fourstroke machines, an LTZ400 and an LTZ250. The 400 is great but the 250 not so much. The problem I'm having with the 250 is that I can't get it to idle right. I tried to warm it up this morning when I was out and I was on it for about 7 or 8 minutes. After bringing it in to try to work on the idle, and set the idle speed, I still couldn't get it to idle correctly. The machine will just die out, like it's starved for fuel, so I thought I would pull the carb to look at the pilot jet to see if it were clogged. It didn't look like it was clogged but I used my carb and choke cleaner to clean it anyways. Then I started it back up and still the same problem.. If I use the choke, it will rev right up but then when I disengage the choke, it'll try to idle but dies anyways.. there really are no problems when it's out at speed but when it's off the throttle using the engine to slow it down, it seems to cough a little, not really loud backfires but still enough to have me concerned. I pulled the plug to see what it looked like and the porcelain was chalk white, only after being run while on choke.. does anyone know if it could be because I used the carb cleaner to clean out the carb and the jets?

Carb Assembly
If I have the same carb look at part # 57 it is discribes as a jet pilot air
See if that is clogged

When the pilot jet was out...did you look thru the center hole, and see light coming thru? That hole is incredibly small and plugs very easily, and usually carb cleaner wont clear it. My guess is the pilot jet is still partially plugged, or the mixture screw is too lean...it should be about two turns out from seated. Is the lid still on the air box? If you remove the lid, the motor goes very lean.
If you cant clear out the center hole of the pilot jet, just get another..they are about 6 bucks.
