Default Eiger air filters

Just wondering if I should replace the stock air filter on my new Eiger? I heard the stock King Quads air filter is junk. What about the Eigers stock one? If so, what brands are out there?

The Eiger air filter has never been a problem. It's a oil soaked foam filter, fits tightly and is easy to install without knocking it loose. While there may be some preformance gains with an aftermarket filter, there are no reliability reasons to change from the stock filter.

Thanks Jaybee. So why is the stock Eigers better than the stock King Quads?

The Eiger has a more protective oiled foam filter. The King Quad has a performance oriented but less protective paper filter. You have to make the choice between engine life and performance.

How often should you take the filter out and re-oil it??? My Bike sits alot it is really only going to get used during Hunting season. I bougth it around Christmas it hasn't moved since the end of January.. Will the filter dry up and get stiff since it is just sitting there??

It shouldn't need cleaning very often if you are not in dusty conditions. Just look at it occasionally to see if it looks dirty. If it's not getting dirty then cleaning and re-oiling it once a year or so should be fine. I just wash mine in dish soap and water and then re-oil it with filter oil or gear oil. If doesn't get dirty often and doesn't require cleaning much then it shouldn't need replacing for a long time, like 10 years.

You can buy a cleaner and oil treatment. The cans I bought are aerosol. The mechanic at the Suzuki dealer told me not to mix brands between the cleaner and the oil because the chemical differences in brands can gum up the filter. The brand that I bought is JP3 or something like that.
