What winch for an Eiger?
#1
I'm looking for a winch for my Eiger. Going to need it to raise snow plow and occasionally pull a log/deer up out of ravine where I hunt and cut wood. Might even get stuck and have to winch out. Haven't found that yet and I have tried since I've owned the Eiger.
Warn is out. I'm not paying that kind of money for the name. I'm looking at Gorrilla, Venom or Viper winches on Ebay. What is any of your experience with any of these brands? They all look to be roughly the same with slight variations in cable length/thickness and accessories.
Thanks,
Matt

I have a venom 2500xt, works great, used it plow snow, pulled myself and others out of mudholes numerous times. Before you put one of these chinese cheap winches on pack them w/ a name brand grease, the grease they use is cheap. Mine is just about a year old and still works fine.

And when you use it for plowing take the cable off and replace it with a short one. It's only easy to switch back and forth, just a little hex screw on the drum. And also put a little pully on the lift point of your blade so you can run your cable through it and back to the bike. You can attach the cable to the rack with a strap. The reason for all of this is to ease the repetitious strain on your gears in the winch from all the short in and outs you will be doing while plowing. Prolongs the life of the winch tenfold.
